How fast does your NA rev?

I wanted to hear the infamous rev buzzer that everyone talks about so I took my car to redline at 2nd gear yesterday. From 2k to 3.5k was kind of sluggish. From 3.5k to 7.5k, if reved and pulled like a rocket. Then from 7.5k to 8k seemed to take forever and there was no power there whatsoever.

I hear all the time that everyone's car pulled like crazy up to 8k rpm. I was just wondering if there is anything wrong with my car. See sig for my car.

Thanks

The power band of an unmodded '84-'91 is from about 3800 RPM to just BEFORE redline.

Sounds like you are stock and running per specs to me. No? ;)

BTW, you are kidding about having to hear the buzzer, right? I hear that thing every time I get in the car AT LEAST a dozen times. Irritates my wife. ;)

Take care,

That sounds about right. It takes a lot to make our cars pull hard past redline. With my mods I can pull up to 8500, and it pulls pretty hard, but I still shift by 8200 rpm always. I have more power in the next gear than I have that high in the powerband.

It is my understanding that the buzzer come on after redline. And if you have a 90 GXl then your redline is at 8K so i think you need to take it over 8K say 8200 maybe. Really i dont think there is any power after 8 and I would say shift at 7..when I had my 89 GXL i would usually shift around 7K..only every once and a while take it to 8K just for the hell of it.

Redline buzzer in my '85 GSL-SE is 6500RPM (peak hp) although I think it is supposed to be at 6800. Redline on the tach is 7K.

at least you guys know what your car sounds like past 4.5K on the tach... I have yet to go beyond it (breaking in new motor). I have only 12 more miles to go until I pass the 1500 milestone, and be allowed to go to redline safely. :) WOOO HOO!!!

I love listening to the buzzer go off! Like NOTA V6 stated, I hear it alot when driving around.

My 88 SE is pretty much stock, slight mod to exhaust (i.e. remove all of it :))

It pulls hard around 4k on up to a little past 7k.

have fun driving around!
