How fast is a 450hp fc?

Posted this in the time slips and dyno but noone reads there, ordering my turbo kit on monday looking at going for 450hp at the rears, what times that gonna get me around down the quarter? Trying to work out if i wanna go for more or go the 450 lol

arghx 04-24-09 11:32 PM

10s with really good traction, or at least deep 11s. J-rat is the man to consult on that one.

jdmsuper7 04-25-09 12:20 AM

Deep 11s if you can drive and can put the power down.

flipside27 04-25-09 01:54 AM

mid to late 10s if u know how to drive

Slow Rotor 04-25-09 03:14 AM

Haha awesome, they are the answers i wanted to hear =D

boostinfc3s 04-25-09 03:43 AM

a more realistic question would be, how fast is the driver? :icon_tup:

Slow Rotor 04-25-09 04:57 AM

Well my cars only got 230 hp so 450 will take some getting used too lol

Hazard15301 04-25-09 05:07 AM

Are you hoping to get that kinda power with just a turbo kit?

Slow Rotor 04-25-09 05:54 AM

I got everything i need done aside from the turbo and fuel setup so yes i am

Probably wont do much till you learn :)

Slow Rotor 04-25-09 07:15 AM

Yeah thats true but i got an idea on what is achieveable now. not sure if ill quite get 450hp, think my exhaust is a lil restrictive but ill see how i go

RandomHero 04-25-09 08:10 AM

Yea you're gonna wanna go at least 3 inch with your exhaust. I once drove a G35 that was making 640 to the wheels, prolly similar power to weight. I can tell you your going to be giddy like a little school girl the first time you blast through 3rd.

Getting traction without breaking stuff is going to be the key. :) A good set of tires to get into the deep 11s is going to make even the TII drivetrain a bit fragile.

Most people underestimate how fast a 400+ FC is. Here's a YouTube of my FC, running bout 400HP when it was filmed:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UOPXWf7_LQ8

In the last run, some kind of hopped up Ford economy car is beside me in the left lane. Keep in mind that I'm on the open diff and launching like a wuss, but just look at the difference between how the cars leave the line. Best run of the night was only a 13.1 with the tires spinning through 1st - 4th.

It's safe to say that a 400HP+ FC is a type of fast that most people won't get until they feel it.

Car sounds great Aaron. You are a goofy ass guy, I still can't get over the hair.

Sorry for the off topic post.

Your opponent in that 4th run, the subaru, that guy was just clueless how to launch an awd car. But a lot of those guys are, then after they figure it out, they still don't launch hard cuz when done properly they toast clutches real quick.

Great runs.

btw: I've commented on a few of your videos, you'll see me on youtube as "pallymeat"

you did that race in canada didn't you.

coxxoc 04-25-09 12:53 PM

The problem with a FC in that power range is putting it to the ground. I've got 255's in the rear and the first few gears are difficult to hook up if you use full throttle. ET streets make things a lot nicer if you are into drag though. :) The fastest this car has run is a 12.1 on street tires. 60 ft is almost always around 2 seconds though (bad).

Slow Rotor 04-25-09 06:29 PM

Yeah well suprisingly I'm getting good traction at the moment and ive only got a set of 215's on the rear so i figure im up for a much wider set. Ive already had probelms with the front diff mount but ive just installed all new mounts and a pinion snubber. I got a coushined ceramic clutch made up for it that they guarnteed to hold 300kw and its a cusco 2 way lsd in the rear, so I'm hoping its all tough enough. Are there any issues im going to run into?

You need suspension. In the last run you can see the weight transfer to the front of the car when you shift. You probably lost a lot of traction because of it. That's why you're spinning so much.

slpin 04-25-09 10:58 PM

shifting could be softened - but all that bucking at the rear actually help the car launch - which - at his powerlevel, he desperately needs! :)

sen2two 04-26-09 03:32 AM

i ran my FC with 400 WHP and got a 12.9 my first night out at the track. not only the first time racing at a real drag strip. but my first time pushing that car full throttle. 1st and 2nd gear were just lighting the tires up, and partly into 3rd. almost went into the other lane in 2nd gear...

many low 400hp FC's run 10's. but with slicks, a strong clutch, and more than a few passes down the track. and other drag related parts people forget about.

theres things needed like building boost off the line (anti-lag), launch control (to get the perfect RPM launch every time), and replacing the stock TII tranny, diff, and axles when you break them on with slicks. among other things...

look to get high 11's from what your sig said, and upgrades on the way. but run BFG drag radials until you get real serious about getting the low times...

Whoa, you don't look like how I pictured you look like.

Also, no helmets while drag racing?

arghx 04-26-09 08:02 AM

they wanted you to wear a helmet??? with a 13 second slip? they don't make you wear a helmet at the local strips here unless you are in the 11's.

Aaron Cake 04-26-09 10:50 AM

I didn't mean to take over this topic. :)

Well, since that tack is 20 minutes from my front door, I'd vote "Yes".

Yep, those videos were taken with the 20 year old suspension still on the car. Now that I have RB springs and KYB AGX struts, the car plants itself far better. Keep in mind also that this was done on an open diff.

At Sparta, they want you to wear a helmet if you are running 13 or faster. Also no passenger. Yet oddly, I was the only person forced to wear a helmet even though there were others running 13s and faster. I think it's because I made the tech inspector feel like an idiot when I opened my hood. :D
