so... this person deliberately put the wrong size tires on their rims?

snub disphenoid 09-25-05 10:38 PM

is this going to be purely a show car that's not really going to be driven hard? Most people who go after performance advise against stretching tires over wheels.

It's a little hard to get the bead to seat properly, very easy to curb rash the sh*t out of the rims.

ratchet strap and attempt to seat the tire. dont do it if the car is going to be driven hard. stretched tires are a plague in the VW forums.

some tires are better for stretching as well, so do your research if you really must do it.

And I hope it doesn't catch on. That is fugly. Looks like you can't afford properly sized tires.

Alex Rodriguez 09-26-05 12:07 AM

just by your tires smaller than your rim and tell the tire shop they are not responsible for failure and walla you got strech its same process to put in a regular tire than a strech

ilike2eatricers 09-26-05 12:19 AM

Some people do it because they want wide, deep dish rims but dont want to pay for the correct tire size and/or think it looks good. I think it's pretty dangerous and ugly.

My buddy had an E30 M3... he had to stretch 225's onto his wheel, or they wouldn't clear his fender wall.

Alex Rodriguez 09-26-05 12:36 AM

yeah thats another reason why they do it ....to clear fenderwells

westler91 09-26-05 12:37 AM

You should smear vaseline on the windshield right before you put those tires on and test drive it........

Or you could just get the fenders rolled or overfenders. I'm sure there is a certain amount of stretching that could be considered safe but I'm sure alot of people who stretch the tires are overstretching.

Alex Rodriguez 09-26-05 12:54 AM

yup

NZConvertible 09-26-05 03:38 AM

Why the hell would you want your wheel/tire combo to look that retarded? Not to mention the negative effect that has on handling.

Therotaryrocket85 09-26-05 01:32 PM

It looks tacky to me. The only instance where i saw it met a purpose was on a mid 90s bmw m3 and he needed it like that so it didnt rub the fender. Personally if i was to pay that much money for the nice wheels i wouldnt half ass it by stretching tires. I didnt even know they still did this. My dad was in the tire business for 30 years and he refused to do it because he felt it wasnt safe. I tend to agree. If you hit a rock wrong or god forbid graze a curb your screwed. But i guess its that way with any low low profile tire.

alexdimen 09-26-05 04:42 PM

the next engine i build is going to be a 12A with 13B rotors in it

i'm sorry to say this bro, but stretching your tires is going to be about as useful as a quadruple guage pod in a 98 civic 4 door... don't succumb to some ricer fad and spend your money on nice tires that FIT

2cute 09-26-05 06:00 PM

wow that has to be the worst most pointless thing i have ever seen in my life. dont do it. just get tires that actually fit

i agree :)

Catharsis 09-26-05 07:57 PM

Streched tires with stiffen the side wall over all and give it a more gradual break away for say drifting. 235s on a 9j is fairly normal i know many people who even run 215s on a 9j its all preferance. though baller is fitting 255s on a 11" wheel
