How do identify injectors?

I have 6 injectors with red/orange plastic caps on them from two 2nd gens.

Basically, I want to know how I can identify the flow rate, size, which year/model it's for, etc.... I did a search on the forum and didn't find anything. I'm a 1st gen guy myself so I'm trying to learn a bit more about FI systems.

Come on someone here has to know. :P: ;P

They have numbers on the side. Something like 19550-1750. Thats not a correct number but yours should have a similar number. Tell us what it is on each injector. Also tell us where the *key* for the electrical plug is located on the injector. It'll be just a nub and it will be either centered on the side of the jack on the injector, or it will be offset to one side i.e. off center. Do not, repeat, do not rely on color to determine what the injector is. Please. Color fades with age. The purple may turn reddish orange. May not. Who knows what color it will be after 15 yrs. Give us some numbers. Also get your ohm meter out and ohm out the pins on the injector. They may be from 1-2 ohms, meaning they are pre 1987 and one half, or they may be 11-13 ohms, meant for cars after the aforementioned years. Numbers, please.

When you say "They may be from 1-2 ohms, meaning they are pre 1987 and one half, or they may be 11-13 ohms, meant for cars after the aforementioned years" are you sure that is the way to identify them from Peak and Hold and "Saturated". If so, on my 88' GXL I do not have a solenoid resistor, is It to say my injectors are Saturated type?

Funny, I found this...

Just saying if they are the *high resistance injectors*, they are probably from a car newer than 1987 and 1/2. If they ohm out around 2 ohms, they are pre 1987 and 1/2. It does not tell you whether they are 460's, 550's, 680's or whatever. The number on the side should tell you what they are. I only have 86-87 cars, so I have only 195500-1370's which are for my turbo car and are 550's. I have some 195500-1350's that are low impedence of about 2.1 ohms and are 460's for my 86 amnd 87 n/a's. They all have the tab for the electrical connector in the center of the electrical jack. I have two 195500-1350's that have the electrical tab offset and measure about 12 ohms. They are strays. I'm not sure which car they came with. They were some previous owners mistake, since all my cars have the solenoid resistor package. I have four PURPLE injectors with no number I bought from CARPARTS.COM. I was sure I'd get first rate injectors in good shape for the turbo. Wrong again. One flows 460 cc per minute, the other three flow somewhere around 510, 520 etc. I'm fairly sure of my method of flow checking since the two *stray* injectors flow a perfect 460cc per minute. None of the above answers the mans question. If he gives us the part numbers on the side of the injectors, we can do a SEARCH on this site. There have been at least two accurate answers to injector identification in the last six months. I did not remember the guys name though. So give us the numbers, please, befor I fall asleep.

thanks, i'll post the injector numbers when i get home.

I've got 2 sets, both 195500-1370. Both are maroon tops. One set (came with the car) have the notch offset, the other set (came with a J-Spec motor) have the notch centered. Both are rectangular plugs, and 550cc after cleaning by RC Engineering.

My problem: I bought a NEW main engine harness last fall, and upon removal of my original harness this past weekend I noticed that the connector plugs are red. The new harness connectors are gray. Worse yet, the notch is centered in the new harness. No problem I thought, I'll just swap the injectors, but now I'm thinking these may be low impedence. My originals are high impedence, I know that.

So, am I pretty much SOL here? I read a while back that it may be possible to build a resistor block to use the low impedence injectors in place of the highs, I'll search for that thread. Could I change the connector ends on the new harness as another option? Any ideas where to get those?

Thanks,

Greg O.

I see at the bottom of your post you have a 88. It should take high impedence(12ohm) injectors. The -1370s with the offset tab. You could use the -1370's with the tab in the center. Since you don't have a solenoid resistor (you don't, do you?) maybe the best method to use the low impedence injectors(2ohms), would be to get the solenoid resistor pack from a wrecking yard, and route the 12v that go to the injector plugs that would be using them, thru the solenoid resistor pack first. The solenoid resistor pack is aluminum in color and located about a foot below the afm on cars that use them. Personaly, I think someone sold you the wrong harness if the plugs have the groove for the injector tab, in the middle of the plug instead of being offset. Not sure of that statement, but it sounds that way to me (amature mechanic). Someone else have any inputs?
