How do I figure intake temps?
So how do you guys do it? Can I translate the stock intake thermosensor into some readable? Or do I just get a temp sending unit from radio shack and make my own?
Do I drill into the IC input hose/ IC output hose and place my sending units. Sealing the hole with some silcon or rtv? Would love to know what my intake temps are. Yes, I know...stock overworked turbo and stock ic = hot. I would just like to put some numbers to the word hot:) James |
IMO the best way to do it is to install an aftermarket EMS like a Wolf3D or Haltech E6K. You could also install a meter and sending unit, but what's the point of spending $50-200 to know your intake temp but not be able to do anything about it?

Hey James, are you back in town or are you back in Danville? You should really see my car now, lol...a LOT has changed since summer.

Get an intake temp sensor from a junkyard. ie manifold air temp sensor for less than $10.
Read the voltage with a multimeter and you can find the conversion tables on the internet. You could fit the sensor (a wire) into the air stream inbetween a coupler and one of the intake tubes and get a reading before the intercooler and after the intercooler. Hope that helps a bit. the_saint |
