How cold is too cold
i've tried to search but this doesn't seem to be too common
My car runs at the bottom of the guage (its not broken). the only real problem i've noticed is my heater is mild warm. so how cold do i want to run the car? |
that sounds really odd. maybe you should check your thermastat?
edit: i mean, if ur car isnt running at the proper temp, that could cause some major reliability and power issues |
no it's legit.
i have a fluidyne and a perma cool. The reason it's so cold is b/c no thermostat. At hwy it's way low. at idle for a couple mins i goes up to stock (1/4) way and my fan will turn on and then beat it down to submission again. i'm just wondering do i want to put a thermo in and stay a constant 1/4 temp or keep her cool on hwy miles. |
a motor normally runs best when its warmed up. i would have it stay at stock temp, maybe just below it
|
yeah
efficency too. but i've also heard that running them colder can prolong their life i'm just curious..i was gonna put the thermo back in once i get time but i dont' really mind her running cool (rare change of pace) |
with a fluidyne and a permacool, no wonder its running very cool :)
Put your thermostat back... your car works best when fully warmed up. |
put it back in...
it's worse without it. |
Yes, put it back in. Your coolant temps are reading so low because the coolant is constantly in motion, and there is not enough time for proper heat transfer from the engine. So yes, you're seeing lower coolant temps, but my guess would be your engine temps and possably oil temps are up. Id suggest putting that thermostat back in ASAP, before something bad happens.
