How can you beat this? ($10 strut bar)

$10 plus shipping comes out to $25. Pretty damn good price and it actually looks to be good quailty. Someone needs to take a chance on it and let everyone know. Oh and jack the car up before putting it on ;)

excuse me but did you happen to not see my thread?

https://www.rx7club.com/2nd-generation-specific-1986-1992-17/ebay-strut-tower-bar-234803/

24.99 buster not 25 dolla! ;)

PS- You can't beat it without going ghetto. ala electrical conduit IIRC ;)

sectachrome 10-29-03 04:34 PM

hmmm that actually looks nice, im thinking about it.

Ryde _Or_Die 10-29-03 04:35 PM

My fault man, didn't see that thread.

Snrub 10-29-03 04:58 PM

Not that a strut bar is anything fancy, but I do question if those ultra-cheap bars do anything substantial. If you think about how stiff your car is, even when place in a good position like a strut bar, does it have much effect?

I find the strutbar 'craze' odd because none of the people on here can feel the difference and most of the people on here are not doing anything that would mandate a non-feelable modification.

I felt the difference in my GTU. I have this one. It did touch my Alt so I had the grind a small portion of both off so they wouldn't touch.

It also very very barely touches the under hood fire lining.

asherwood 10-29-03 06:41 PM

Too bad I already have one.

But hey, it's not as pretty as that one, kind like the oval shaped bar (mine's round):(

For $10, I should really buy another and sell the other one I haven't yet installed!!!

Anybody want to buy mine for $50...:D

tabularasa 10-29-03 06:45 PM

Hey... I bought it... Dont they take paypal???

5 point whoa 10-29-03 07:20 PM

I bought that strut bar and put it on my TII and found it get's in the way of the coolant cap on the filler neck and it goes over your oil cap so it's a pain in the ass when u change your oil or add coolant. Then u also have to get a smaller alternator belt....didn't like it...so i sold it.

you might have got the s5 one somehow, someone told me the s5 is way different than the s4 one, and same with the turbo ones

1987RX7guy 10-29-03 08:09 PM

mine isn't in the way of anything at all. I can check all my fluids and everything.

mizike 10-29-03 08:18 PM

Kool......maybe I got a weired one :D

Snrub 10-29-03 08:25 PM

Some people say they can feel the difference. Are they really feeling the difference or do they simply think they feel a difference? Placebo (sp?) effect my friends. :)

I didn't feel anything untill I took a turn at the light going onto the highway that leads to the city and it didn't feel the same as when I usually turn. Mind you I turn on this road every day for 2 years now. I would know if it felt different or not.

I don't think so! If I put it on wrong I think I would know cause it would have sat on my intercooler :hah:

Thanks for playing!

TakumiJr 10-29-03 08:55 PM

Yeah i got that same strut bar, but it hit my alternator so when i went to take it off i snap my top strut mount bolt. So i didnt have that good of experience with it, but my friend have the e-bay one and it work out great on his rx-7.

tabularasa 10-29-03 09:24 PM

Are those Bomz intakes they have on ebay POSes? I would imagine so. They have the K&N kit on Mazdaperformance.com i was considering.

Kai 10-30-03 12:43 AM

Get one of the adapters from http://rx7cz.net/shop/ and put a K&N on it. It will be slightly cheaper and will work just as well, if not better then the K&N FIPK kit because it doesn't have any sharp edges or flat spots like the cheapie Ebay ones.:)

tabularasa 10-30-03 07:38 AM

Thats not too bad... Thanks for the link!

MechE00 10-30-03 09:15 AM

Heh.. I'm thinking of getting that one, and this one: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=2439285801 and taking them to some autocrosses for some fun. Not the "I want to win" kind of fun, but the geeky, science kind of fun.

My intention would be to try to gather data about how much difference these bars make.

The plan would be to set it up so one end of each bar (front and rear) could be disconnected rather easily without it being visually noticeable from the driver's seat. I would drive, and write comments on the car's handling, and record run times for each run. Someone else would connect/disconnect the bars at their whim for each run, and record the state of each bar for each run.

Maybe, given enough autocross runs, I could gather enough data (times and comments related to bar state) to make some conclusions about the effectiveness of the bars (judging purely on time will be tough, because human performance and learning curve at autocross are so large a factor)...

The rear bar is a bit suspicious to me, though, given the way it mounts.. but if it's cheap enough, I may do it anyway for the curiosity factor.

1987RX7guy 10-30-03 09:21 AM

I have hesitated from buying a rear bar for now as I will have to examine them all in the various pics and weights. For example my front strut tower bar weighs a mear 4lbs. The cork sport one also weighs 4lbs but this is for the rear bar. I also want to research some about how structures deal with loads put on them. since that ebay knock off is round and the CS one is oval I would like to fine out which one would take the load better. I am also trying to think of how the CP bar would handle compared to there top ONLY bars. I also want to get a weight on the CP bar and try o figure out which would be better and be able to justify the adde expense if I descide to go with a more pricey one.
