How can they get away w/ chargin $430 for some $50 mounts just cuz its for a 20b FC

http://www.k2rd.com/Online_Catalog/FC3S/FC3S-index.htm
$430
bent and welded stainless steel
powdercoated
$25 for 6 bolts, not bad considering theyre Mazda OEM ;-)

why don't we (the rx7forum) have some made up, about 15. Would cost maybe $430 for 1/2 of em to be made up, and not much for powdercoating.
I mean thats just insane. Why pay these prices when you could have them made custom for you powdercoated in any color you want for less

mistert 11-11-01 02:49 AM

yeah something tells me they didnt even come up with the design themselves. you could have those made for you at about $5 a piece (after powdercoating) by some company with a CNC machine. Hell, you could BUY your own CNC machine used for under $5000

RarestRX 11-11-01 11:59 AM

Yo,

Damn, people like talking out of their asses here. Paul and Ted at K2RD came up with those mounts themselves, 'cause they put a 20B in an FC. They machined them themselves, welded them, etc. It's called R & D. You don't spend literally dozens of man hours figuring out how to shoe-horn a 20B in an FC and then sell your custom mounts /that you came up with/ for $20. C'mon people, use your heads. I'm sure they're just trying to recoup some of the R & D costs on it. K2RD has great FC specific stuff for cheap, so quit yer bitchin'.

If they want to charge that much, and people will buy them, then all the power to them. Those mounts though are not an unobvious desgin and they could be replicated for MUCH less. I think thats what everyone is saying. It is not an uncommon practice to take someones idea (body kit, hardware, etc.) and then build it cheaper. NOW if I could only afford a 20b block, front nose, engine management, etc.... :D

Evil Aviator 11-11-01 06:49 PM

I would have gladly paid $430 for mounts, but K2RD didn't make them when I started my project. Yes, mine were made for less, but they still were not very cheap, and the only labor I paid for was the welding because my friend did the rest of the work for free. Had I paid for the full materials and labor cost (lots of R&D, too), mine would have cost about $500 for the pair.

Hehehe, if you want to make some 20B mounts yourself, then go right ahead.

Jeff20B 11-11-01 06:54 PM

I will :D (this doesn't count the man-hours involved which will probably come close to $500 at least)

Dyre 11-11-01 07:41 PM

Hmm waste a couple weekends trying to worry about building my mounts, or spend $450 for something i know works and get on with the projects...

Doesnt seam like a very hard decision to me-

BhamBill 11-11-01 07:57 PM

I'm sure it's a big ripoff! After all, they'll make up all their costs on the first 5 or 10 sets they sell and then it'll all be profit. Oh wait. They'll probably only sell 5 or 10 sets in their lives. You mean they're offering these for only $430 to make it possible to do a $25-30,000 project quickly and to save people a lot of grief??? What a concept.

What really gets me is how one of the top companies for 7 performance classifies the 20b as a two rotor...take a look for yourself...

cymfc3s 11-12-01 01:38 AM

You guys really need to quit bitching about prices. You complain about a this part costing 50 bucks, this one costing 100 bucks, and then complain about why your car never runs right. You pay to play.
Paul has the tooling, the education, the material and the know how. Do you? You guys should be greatful that a guy is willing to put his time and energy into developing products that make our cars perform better. We need companies like K2RD, that actual give a shit about our cars and are willing to work with us. The guy drove all the way down from sacto to deliver parts for me, and work out some issues i was having with my fuel system. Gave me tons of good advice. There are some things you cant put a price tag on.

Poindexter10thae 11-12-01 01:44 AM

If you can afford a 20B, then you should have no problem paying $430 for mounts.

props to Ted

Node 11-12-01 04:12 AM

I mean $100-$150 would be good
but $450
I mean I'm not saying you can't afford it for a 20b project, but still
This isn't exactly genius, And I'm not putting him down
Why a gotta attack. You know everything for a FD is overpriced to hell, well alot of it.
I'm sure there are plenty of these in australia for less

Vicious 11-12-01 04:59 AM

hmmm i'm looking into production of all the products that are being sold for $$$$ and sell it for half the price. (intercooler, engine mounts, downpipe, straight pipe, exhaust system) whatever i can do, i feel those who want Performance without the great sacrifice. Not everyone can run to their mommy's for quick cash (no offense) anyways, the people who are bitchin are just being practical about the whole thing.well then peace out

vicious

Node 11-12-01 05:07 AM

I agree w/ you are gonna pay out the ass for a 20b swap
but still I mean, they should make it a lil easier on the FC fan ;-)
oh well
im done bitchin i suppose

Josepi 11-12-01 07:12 AM

Well a TPS from the dealer is 290$! WTF?! It's only like 10$ of electronics!! But, i'm not going to complain if anything can get my car running *right*! I guess just think of the time! that it took to create, measure, and think up of what it would take to create a product. Time=money right?! So, I think fuck 430$ motor mounts, they need to sell the car for 430!!

Riiiight....

MIKE-P-28 11-12-01 07:37 AM

Or how bout 46 bucks for a little piece of steel called an apex seal. If you talking about paying for R & D, I bet Mazda has already well enough paid for all that by the number of Rotary Engines they have made...

But on the note of someone making custom brackets, If you need them buy them, if you can make them, make them!

On most stock parts for a mazda they rip you off bigtime! Use the Mazda rip off rule of thumb:

Take what you think it will cost and multiply by 10, if you want horsepower, double it again...

:) Custom parts rock tho!
