its worked for me in the past, i assume it will work for him too.

if you wait long enough, eventually it will stop leaking by itself

But at that point the engine stops running too :).

You can get that fluid dye stuff. Pour it in with the fluid, run the car a little while, then shut it off. Crawl under the car with a blacklight and your leak should show up flourescent colors.

I think its available at most auto places (like Pepboys, Autozone, etc...)
