Hot gearbox

The shifter is getting hot, or you're getting hot air up through it? If the first, that's fairly normal. Just make sure your gearbox has a full load of fluid. That difference between flywheel HP and wheel HP? A lot of that goes into the gearbox and is turned into heat. The hot air blowing up through it means your shifter bushings are shot. Replace them.

I have the same problem.
My shifter pannel is a little ripped so after about 5 minutes of driving, I start feeling hot air coming out of the rip. I thought that was normal, just warm air coming up from the transmission.
My shifter is not sloppy so I don't believe my bushings are shot. Are you sure it's not normal?
My friend said every FC he's driven in get a lot of heat soak through the transmission.

My tranny was in perfect running condition no heat nothing. then one day did a clutch change on it and ran it for about 100 miles with no gear lube in the tranny. Finally got some gear lube in there and it never cooled off.... it was blazing hot, so hot you couldnt hold the shifter any longer that what it took to shift it. I thought that would clear out when I put lube in it. I donno what went on.. trashed the tranny and got a new one.

i had this happen before, check fluid!!! if u run it low or dry it will damage trany fast!!!

if it is full...and your shifter is getting burning hot, then its a sign the trany is on its way out, bearings and crap, are going. might last a while tho, mine lasted a year like that, then it started making really loud whining noises and got super hot, then it just started craping out completly, lost gears, then got a new trany.

I had the same issue. I got a shift boot set from mazdatrix.com and it took care of the heat.

One way to tell if that's the problem is to pop off the shifter surround and take a look. If the rubber boots torn, that's your problem. Here's a link to the set of boots that helped me out. :)
