hooking up a wideband..
 

So I'm looking at getting a wideband for my 7 since I hooked up a diagnostic connector and I am getting an error for the 02 sensor on start up for the first minute or two.

I just got my watertemp gauge hooked up (woohoo!) and I ordered an oil pressure gauge to match.

So, I'm looking at getting a wideband and had my eye set on a prosport one since it would matc the other two gauges I have. http://prosportgauges.com/wideband-a...kit-Amber.aspx

Now, I plan on getting an RTek 2.1 in the near future. How would I wire this up? I know the ECU needs to read the Air/Fuel ratio - can I replace the stock O2 sensor one with the prosport one and wire it up so the ECU reads the AFR but also displays to the gauge?

ALSO! Can I wire it up so the RTek sees the signal and it also displays to the gauge in the future? :scratch:

You'll need a stock O2 sensor for the ecu. As far as displaying afr's from a wideband through the rtek, I'm not sure but they would tell you on there website

the stock ecu only needs to read the O2 sensor at cruising speed (highway).
You can hook up the wideband to the Rtek. The wideband you have has a datalog 5v wire, all you need to do is hook that wire up into the right pin connector on the ecu harness where it plugs into the rtek ecu. The installation manual of the rtek will tell you how to setup and install the wideband signal.

Check the Rtek section about hooking up the wideband to it.

You should just replace the stock o2 sensor and leave that plugged in, then install the wideband into a separate bung. The stock o2 sensor can be replaced with a universal one-wire unit for like $20-$30

There's no mention of a 0-1V simulated narrowband output for that wideband gauge/controller, so you'll need to retain a stock 02 sensor. Using the stock 02 sensor bung for a wideband isn't the best idea anyhow since it's so close to the turbo. I nuked a Bosch sensor after about a year and a half with it 30" from the turbo. And that's even with a large copper heatsink.

The instructions for the controller should tell you the scaling factor used to convert from the 0-5V output to AFRs. For example, for my LC-1 I enter 0V = 7.35 & 5V = 22.39.

Just built big 6 port, full RB exhaust and working on getting an s5 intake on for the VDI stuff.

with knowing that, and the rb stainless header's bung for the o2 sensor, where should i place the aftermarket one?

The instructions will have a suggestion, but it's generally 3 ft. from the exhaust ports or turbo. It should also be in the 2 or 10 o'clock position.
