Hooking up Three MSD's.HOW?
 

aright here is what I have in terms of Parts.I have one MSD 6a,One MSD 6al,and one Crane HI-6..Two MSD Blaster Coils.I wanted to See if anyone had any Info on How to Hook these Parts up to Run as Ignition on an N/A.The stupid question would be has anyone done it.Obviously is has been done in one form or another,Correct?..so If someone has,then could somebody show me HOW.I already have an MSD running the Leading Coil,But since the Trailing is going to have a "mismatch(MSD and HI-6) I was going to Switch that out and Run the HI-6 as Leading.My Trailing,I would like to Run a Blaster coil to Each of the trailing,and use an MSD Box to run that..go I need the stock ignitor from the Trailing coil to do this?..alot Of questions,but I am sure Some Polite member will help me(I hope!)..thanks guys,in advance..STYX.

No idea, but I doubt its worth the cost, the time or the effort. The trailing plugs do very little compared to the leading plugs, so any gains will be equally small.

Trailing plugs do a lot actually. You will loose a substantial amount of power without them.

We need to get rid of the internet myth that says the trailing does next to nothing and that you don't even need it.

I have run the engine on only trailing before. This is something else that has been said a few times that the engine will not run without the leading.

I dono about mitchmatching, however i recently built this and am just tryign to find an ignitor plug with pigtails so i can put it all in

Are you running the stock ecu? ive read that the stock ecu and ignitor wont function with msd's hooked up due to the ignitor not seeing correct resistances at the coil (due to the msd being there) and wont fire

Either way it is a fact tha the trailings have a lot less access to the chamber through the much smaller hole, so it would only make sense that any gains there will be less.

The MSD basically goes in between the ignitor and the factory coil.

As said I dunno how well it'll work on the stock ECU - I do know I changed nothing setting wise on the Haltech betwen running bare, factory coils/ignitors and running a single 6A on the leading side.

I agree. In fact I don't think you would have any noticable or measurable gains with a CDI on the trailing. I have never done it so maybe there is.

I've never heard anyone say that. Mazda's own technical literature explains the improvements they make to fuel consumption and emissions. But the bulk of the mixture is ignited by the leading plug.

Again, I've never heard anyone say that, but the effect of them not working has been discussed numerous times. The engine feels like it's only making half the power it normally would.

I wouldn't have posted that otherwise. :wink: I have run without them many times. I lose a fair amount of performance without them.

You are right. Considering the help emmisions and fuel consumption, they help with performance. I have heard what I said a few times and cring everytime I read it.

I have read this too a few times my self. Mostly from the newbis.

Yes without the leading, the engine feels even worse since the fuel is igniting much much later.

From experience, I loose a fair amount of power without the trailing. I have also experienced this on another engine I was working on except its even worse then mine.

the gain in msd is the smoothness and response. bads are plugs burnt out and msd is a fire hazard. mine caught on fire at the track. ran good for about a year. not worth 400 dollars

Caught on fire? Bad wiring? Bad box? I have never heard of that, maybe you got a bad box.

You can stack them with 4, quarter 20 threaded rods and a handful of nuts and washers. Then make brackets to hold the rack to whatever you want to mount them to.

i own an MSD SCI"sport compact ignition" box, but never hooked it up, will it work for my T2?

the "dream plan" is to put all three where the battery "was".(relocating it in the spring).the boxes would be air cooled by a Set of Computer fans(small 12 volt fans). sort of stacking them like this /// and putting the Fans on top to allow air to cool them,as they Do Conduct alot of heat.I would like to Know If I can take the Stock Trailing apart and use the Blaster coils instead of the Stock Trailing coils.My plan is to use a Box and coil for each Trailing.
