<- HAd a Completely stock 86 GXL with all the options. Including 4 pot brakes and LSD. NO ABS

SirCygnus 05-09-10 05:29 PM

can you tell us what year acura's you where using?

clokker 05-09-10 07:48 PM

IIRC, it was a '93.

SirCygnus 05-09-10 08:09 PM

ah ok. i was thinking of doing the same. my braking power sucks. hell... my dads truck can stop better than my damn 7. they seem squishy and dont really have any bite.

clokker 05-09-10 08:38 PM

Go for the 1 1/16" Subaru setup...it rocks.

oh... ok.

You may have been so busy 'unbuilding' the Suburu chassis from around your new master cylinder booster that you have failed to notice the following: Someone has built a V-* around your Mazda...:squint:

I'm just sayin'...:dunno:

And installed into the FD...
The brace is also visible in these shots...

The setup is superb.
A worthy upgrade from the 929/Integra brakes, IMO (I'm now hunting one for my FC).
Pedal is firm, responsive and surprisingly easy to modulate.
I had been afraid of ON/OFF brakes with this much larger MC but that is not the case.
Paired with the brace, I don't see how you could do much better with stock calipers/rotors.

When I do find a candidtae for my FC, I'll also be trying the 929 proportioning valve with residual pressure valves.
Dunno how that will work but it's the last variation I can think to try.

clokker 05-10-10 08:26 AM

Yeah, I don't know how that happened.

Must have been the Torque Fairy.

Hi Clokker, I'm looking to fit a Tilton brake proportioning valve in place of the stock proportioning valve. You spoke about these in this thread, so I'm wondering if you have experience with these. Their literature says it has ports with M10x1.0-6H, 74° included angle at base - would you know whether the stock fittings will seal ok on this? Thanks.

clokker 08-24-10 05:25 AM

Hello.
The thread pitch is correct but I don't know what the angle of the flare is supposed to be.
I'd guess it would be fine for stock fittings.

grave yard find- so i installed the subaru master and booster and have the montero y block for the front port of the master. how did you move the lines? which lines went to whick ports? do you have any pics of your set up?

thanks

clokker 03-16-15 02:28 PM

Hello, not sure I understand.
The pics above should show all the detail necessary and even though that's an FD it would be exactly the same for the FC.

I cover this with pictures and description of line movement for the FC in the other thread.

It's not car related but, I recently scored a 60" x 36" x 1 3/4" thick hard maple butcher block workbench top for $30. Used of course, but still sweet. It can be turned over or re-finished, I'm turning it over.

Switchblade5984 03-17-15 11:58 PM

so, no holy grail found yet... was hoping, as i am going to the junkyard tomorrow, and figured i would pick up a brake booster/master combo while i was there. looking for the easiest possible swap, which seems like a suburu 1in set up?

clokker 03-18-15 06:04 AM

It's 1 1/16" actually and yes, that's the one you want.

Switchblade5984 03-18-15 10:51 AM

So
one inch Subaru mc (subaru legacy)
Subaru booster
Stock proportional valve?
Montaro splitter?
And fab'ed lines.

Switchblade5984 03-18-15 07:40 PM

pulled a Subaru 1in MC and booster.... couldnt find a plug for the fourth port. guess ill be trying the cut down bolt method.

so connect the lines and go? if i read that correctly, you used just the MC from the subaru... so if im using both little adjustment should be required for MC to Booster?

nataku_FC3S 03-19-15 05:50 PM

The Subaru 1 1/16 MC only has 2 ports

I believe that was addressed earlier in the thread, with the solution being to tee-off the front channel to accommodate the FC's individual front lines.

Switchblade5984 03-19-15 11:52 PM

right, but i went with the 1 inch, that has 4.
