HKS EVC IV Owners

Just picked up my EVC IV. I went through the "learning" function and set my hi and low settings. I took the car for a boot on the highway on my way home and noticed that my boost gauge and the boost level being reported by the EVC are not matching. I have my hi setting at 0.70 Bar which is just over 10 psi according to the conversion chart and my low set at 0.65 Bar which is just over 7psi I think.

I had the EVC set to the low setting but when I punch the throttle, my boost gauge is going upwards of 10psi while the EVC is only reading 0.63 Bar or so. I have my boost warning set to 0.75 Bar which works out to just under 11psi so it should be shutting off, but like I said the readings between the EVC and my boost gauge are not matching. I don't know which on to believe, a high budget HKS boost controller, or my cheepo depot Autometer boost gauge. Do you think I hooked something up wrong?

I used the T piece to tap into the hose going to the boost sensor and connected it to port #1 on the black box. Is that a bad idea? Could that be causing the difference in readings? If it is where should I connect to?

A lil' help would be great.

It's best to check with another meter... but more than likely the autometer is giving you inncorrect readings, I have seen this many of times.

I don't suspect the EVC IV because you would not be able to perform the "learning" function... plus the overboost protection doesn't pick it up. The EVC IV isn't just a "high budget boost controller" it's a very advanced piece of hardware with a very fast stepping motor.(black box) You'll notice most all boost controllers utilize 2 vacumm ports, HKS uses 3 ports.

Sensei;)

Believe the EVC...

Does anyone actually have one in their car? Just want to compare installation notes.

personally i would have hooked the EVC up to its own vacuum nipple (one on the middle of the UIM right by where it bolts to the LIM maybe)

but about the two meters reading differently. did you hook up the EVC AFTER the reducer pill that is in the pressure sensor line or before it? because that could slightly change the reading.

also try hooking the EVC line and the autometer gauge line to the same nipple and see if they still read differently.

Trust me, it's the crappy autometer gauge. The calibration is not nearly as accurate as the EVC4 internal circuitry.
