Hesitant accel and rough idle, got me stumped.

OK... here's the symptoms:

Car has run great for about 200mi after a rebuild. Idle has always been a little... unstable. Haven't looked into that yet, more major problems. However, last night while I was driving, the acceleration all the sudden dropped way down. I stopped the car, and it was barely idling, maybe 200 rpm's. The entire car was shaking, there was no power. It got worse, and I had to keep the gas down just to keep it running.

I messed around with the idle and set it as high as I could, it hit a stable 700 then. I wiggled some wires, and then the idle just kinda shot up to 1500. I took it around the block, and everything was fine. Thought nothing of it, just a wierd thing. Research it tomorrow.

I went to get gas this afternoon, and it happened again. I was hanging a u-turn and the car just kinda shut itself down. It was running, but there was no power and the idle was at 200 again. I pulled over and turned off the car, wiggled some things, and nothing happened. Started it back up and it was still doing it. Drove it some more, and the problem just kinda disappeared when I got to the station. After fueling, I started it back up and it made it all the way home without a hitch.

When it starts acting up, I can smell lots of gas coming from somewhere... but when I open the hood everything looks copacetic. My guess is that it's coming from the exhaust... Maybe the mixture if being fucked up by something. I got a list of things to be replaced, I probably need to add something.

I'm really bumfuzzled about this. I searched around a bit and nothing seemed relevant. What do you experienced guys think?
