Basicaly thanks to the enthusiasm of everyone, were tackling te ATX. Its definatey more of a job than we (i thought.) The most stressful thing tonite, honestly was getting the car off the ground. Which took in all actuality, about an hour and a half. As it turns out for one, the jack doesnt fit under the car-- too low. And for two, the jack, when completely raised, is now high enough to allow room for removal of the transmssion. We have the car on jack stands which were going to be used for the tranny. We will rig somethign else of, but for the time being its working.

BTW: I just wanted to say TIA for everyone that gotme to take the leap forward to doing my own tranny swap. Kudos

Time spent: 7.5 hrs
Called Pizza Time, read the repair manual: 40 mins.
Remove tranny oil pan and oil: 20 minutes.
Eat pizza with tranny fluid covered hands: priceless. 15 minutes.
Laugh about how the two magnets in the pan look about 10 times the size of the magnet: 10 minutes
Run about garage turned shop acting like james bond: 10 minutes.
Remove exhaist: 1 hr. 2 broken bolt heads. I ended up just kicking the ficking thing off the hangers. (with the money i saved on my own atx install, i can buy new exhaust!)
Remove heat shield 1hr: 2 broken bolts, 2lbs of rust in eyes. Distinct road salt taste in moth. Some freaking idiot last owner apparently needed a ground for his amplifier so drilled straight through his floorboards right through the heat shields. So now not only are their bolts, but screws that are somewhere burried under intereior carpet. A cutoff tool would have been nice. Instead we bent the hell out of the heat shield, but it did come off.
Drain engine oil: 10 minutes.

i really dont know if that adds up to 7.5 hours, but we did spend that much time (7.5) on just that. and we have to goof off, or it wouldnt be nearly as tolerable in an unheated (with exception to the tiny spaceheaters) 30ish degree garage.

to transmit something is TX: Look on any external modem. I'm not too sure where it comes from though.

 

In military shorthand:

'transmit' is 'xmit'

'transfer' is 'xfer'

etc...

erm... sorry guys! atx is auto transmission, guess i could abriviate better. So... when it comes down the the flywheel nut, whats the plan, or do i have to rig it all up. I saw the flywheel holder on a website thtat has rebuild info. I think it was mounting a holder to the flywheel so it does not turn.
I know its some help, but we have airtools which have helped us quite a bit already (stupid rust). Flywheel I already know will be tough. What can I do?

 

i would suggest making your own flywheel stopper bar. you just need a metal bar with holes in it (wood could work if you had long enough bolts to go through it) bolt it to the flywheel and rotate it until it hits something solid (that will not break if you put force on it). proceed to unbolt the larger center bolt
