help!! why this happened?

hi, guys, I have no clue about how this happened.

I was trying to strip down a long block. the flywheel and counterweight are already taken out. I was trying to loose the e-shaft bolt using the ratch and 19mm socket by counter clockwise. as you know, by doing that will rotate the rotors. yah, I was able to make couple turns, and then the engine locked up. I counldn't turn the engine in either way? what is going on? man, the e-shaft bolt is so tied that I even broke my ratch when using extension bar on it.

wonder 240 foot/lb impact gun will good enough to take that e-shaft bolt out?

Put the flywheel back on, and use a flywheel brace to hold the e-shaft steady. Then remove the front bolt.

The engine shouldn't have seized like that. Maybe you dropped something into the intake manifold?

Also, when I removed the front bolt on my engine, I had to heat the bolt with a propane torch, and then use a 3' cheater pipe on my 3/4" driver to get the bolt loose.

The Craftsman driver was bending pretty badly, and is probably junk now, as it's somewhat fatigued.

that bolt can be a BITCH.

use heat.

lots and lots of fire always solves things.. mwahahahahahahahahahhhaahhaaha!!!!

yah, I am think about to use torch. but did I just lock(seized) the engine? why it is not rotating?

thanks

I don't think that I dropped anything in the intake. all intake parts were still on the engine.

I don't know why the engine seized, unless you dropped something into it. Were you reverse-rotating the engine? Maybe a seal jammed against the rotor housing, and stopped the movement of the rotor assy. I doubt that would be the problem, as I've reverse-rotated the engines on my RX-7s many times, by parking the cars on hills, while in gear, and failing to set the e-brake correctly.

Weirder things have happened though. I suppose you could look in the exhaust ports and see if there's anything in there, or you could just take it apart. :)

The good news: You only have to rebuild it once..

It's supposed to be torqued to 328 ft/lbs. I used the starter to loosen it while it was still in the car. Doesn't help you now, but next time I'd do it that way.

help!!!!!!!!
my shaft is not moving at all directions. what does it mean? bearing came out? I just borrowed a eletric impact gun yesterday, still doesn't work. not sure enough torque on the impact gun?

what can I do now? can I still disassemble the motor? like from the back?

yearagh, wonder if you can come take a look at it since you are so close.

thanks

got it

hi, guys, I finally got it out. here is what I done.

I started take it apart from the rear. but I was stuck after I took out the rear rotor housing, cuz the e-shaft won't rotate. well, I tried it with my elec impact gun, it rotated, but the bolt didn't come out. I kept trying the impact gun, with WD40 spray. after about 10 times, and I was about to give up, and the damn bolt came out, just like magic. I was so happy.

when I carefully took out the middle housing, I found the the carbon deposits is the main reason that I can't rotate the engine. I guess they came out from the rotors when I moved the engine around, up and down.

thanks for all the helps
