help! when i brake the wheels cock to the left!!
alright seems simple, and i have NO idea what i am searching for...before i crack into the stearing and brake system i was wondering if this has happened to any of you...
when ever i brake and ONLY when i brake the wheel cocks a lil to the right and the wheel turn progressivly harder to the left the more i brake... is this a brake problem or a steering problem? i have a 87 T 2 with drilled and slotted rotors, hawk pad, ss brake lines and stock steering rack. any ideas or hypothesis? |
yeah see i had the same problem except it was with normal driving... i would let go of the wheel and my car would lean toward the left not a slight lean. took it to "just for tires" since i was thinking it was alignment. but to make a long story short it was a broken wheel hub that needed to be fixed. so not sure if u have the same problem but just trying to give some input.

could be loose hubs....
more than likely though its a sticky caliper. When you hit the brakes it only grabs one wheel, and thus pulls you in that direction. |

if it was the elignment it would always want to pull. i vote for the sticky pads. i only had enough time to put one new brake rotor on my drivers side, and now when i brake it slightly pulls to the left.

wells her is another interesting observation....when i go around right corners it has terrible understeer...like it starts skiding it so bad (on-ramps) but so far as i have seen left turns are ok...and i cant seem to drift anymore because of understeer as well....so
can sway bar for struts effect this at all??? becuase i have loose sway bar bushings thanks for your thoughts guys |

it could be a lot of things. um we cant see the car so we cant see how big the cock is.
here's some suggestions 1. tires; air pressure ok? condition? a bad tire could do this 2. could be a sticky caliper 3. alignment could be off too 4. could be a bad bushing/bearing etc, jack it up, and grab the wheel, if its got play, then maybe thats where the cock is coming from |

Drifting is more similar to oversteering, whereas understeering is when the front tires lose traction and slide first, opposite of what you want for drifting.
Back to the original topic though. The cause for the car pulling to one side when braking is most likely caused by a seized caliper or one that on the way there. As for the understeering problem, and that the car normally tracks straight, it's probably not tire pressure, or alignment. In this situation definitely, check the bushings and bearings. Good luck, hope you're able to get those annoying little problems sorted out. I know how frustrating they can be. |
