Help w/my 10th Anny!!

Hey guys-I just bought a 10th anny today-here's the ad:
This is a 10th aniversary edition RX-7, this is a project car, it does start but does not run very good, it needs to be dyno tuned. It has a 91 JDM Turbo II in it, i have the oil metering pump removed, the smog accessarys have been removed and block off plates installed, has a 2 1/2 inch down pipe. New tires yokahama avs es 100's with barely any miles. has 720cc secondary injectors. also has underdrive pulleys.
Ok so the guy drove it to work back and forth for awhile, then decided to put an Apex S-AFC in it. I'm not sure if he set it up right or not,but now the car is not running. It cranks over but will not start. Any ideas?

when you say it's not running, what exactly does that mean? tell us your symptoms.

Probably flooded. Read the FAQ for FC on how to clear the flood

Thanks for the link good info-the car cranks over but will not start. But it was running although untuned before the guy attempted to put the s-afc in there-

T2phantom 11-12-06 12:44 PM

Ijust bought it yesterday bring it home today and I'll mess w/it-cant wait-just wondered if anyone had any ideas

Icemark 11-12-06 01:00 PM

did you check to see if it is flooded and try and clear the flood?

RotaryEvolution 11-12-06 01:11 PM

sounds like a clusterf%$#!

either it's flooded or blown. try the unflooding procedure and if that doesn't work check the SAFC install, if that doesn't work then compression test.

RX*TooNER 11-12-06 01:15 PM

Yep I'd say its flooded... just pull a spark plug and check. And then check the fuel correction on yer AFC.

T2phantom 11-12-06 02:08 PM

Thanks for your help guys-I'll keep an update

REMOVE the SAFC now and put the wiring back as original first.

I think cluster fuck covers it pretty well. But, well worth the three hundred bucks you payed for it.

T2phantom 11-12-06 05:35 PM

I'm going to remove the SAFC2 and see how it runs after I pull the plugs-I bought the 10th anny for $1k and SAFC2 is brand new and he hooked it up and now it wont start. From what he told me the car had terrible low end but once it spooled the mid and high rpms were fast-he drove it for a few months like this back and forth to work then tried to put the SAFC2 last week, but since then it hasnt started. He had to relocate for work and the car had to go. It should be home tomorrow after I get reg'd to tow-I cant work on at at his old house.

if what he says is true. than somethings wrong with the SAFC install or the way its configured. btw most tII's have poor low end

Funkspectrum 11-13-06 02:58 AM

put 550's back in the secondaries...bring it back to stock...

mazdaverx713b 11-13-06 10:44 AM

any update? putting the car back to stock gives you a clean sheet to start with so definatly do it. after checking for flooding, check to make sure you have spark. if its not flooded, check to make sure you are getting fuel to the engine. go back to the basics and start from scratch. if you have fuel and spark, run a compression test.

VacavilleFC 11-13-06 10:53 AM

is this the one that was on craigslist a week or 2 a go and was in pieces?

T2phantom 11-13-06 08:06 PM

Its home in my garage today but no time-tomorrow I will go thru everything and list my results

T2phantom 11-14-06 06:27 PM

Well today pulled out the plugs which were wet-clean and let them dry. when you turn the ignition on the afc didnt come on. Further inspection revealed the power wire not hooked up. I put the plugs back in-the afc came on-it cranked over for a minute and coughed once. But thats it-Still cranks and no start-I pulled the plugs back out, little wet,let them dry and tested-all plugs have spark. The guy said the ecu and engine is s5 jdm,the ecu is N333. But the wiring diagram for the afc shows s4 and s5 ecu's and mine looks like an s4 but the afc is kinda setup for both. Example-the ignition wire was in the right slot for an S5-but the RPM wire is in the right spot for an S4...I havent run a compression test yet but will tomorrow. Any ideas?

T2phantom 11-14-06 11:44 PM

Excuse me the Rpm wire is in the right spot. From the diagram, apparently my ecu is a S4.All the wires were in the right spot for an S4-the only thing I see is the yellow wire going to the air flow meter wire, but the white one goes out to the harness. In 1300cc.com pic of the afc install I see the yellow and the white going to the ECU-can anyone help me out here?
I should just rip this crap out and put a Haltech in

T2phantom 11-15-06 02:20 AM

confirmed n333 is S4 ecu
