Help...universal oxy. sensor or factory??
 

I just got a s5 turbo2. When I looked at the oxy. sensor on the downpipe the wire was hitting the turbo and melted the insul. on the wire. I don't want to drive the car like this so I called the local rotary tuner (Banzai racing). To see if they had any. tThey told me to go to the nearest Advaced auto or Autozone and pick one up for under $20. I called Napa and they wanted $88. Victoria british wants like $60+ .So I bought the one from Advanced. It's a univ. Bosch. I ill need to splice into the old wirng. Is this a good sensor or should I pay more. The peeps at Banzai laughed when I told them how much Napa wanted. Any comments..?

Sounds good, its what im using. You can drive the car without the 02 sensor fine, youll just get crummy cuise gas mileage.

The one you got's fine. As long as there's enough wire left on the old sensor to get the connector off and spliced onto the new sensor, you're good.

I read somewhere about a sheilded wire on the stock sensor. Wtf is a sheilded wire? The one on the Bosch is just a black single wire.

No he won't, it'll just be slightly worse.

Shielded wire has a thin inner insulator around the signal wire, then a braided shield wire and then the outer insulation. One end of the shild wire is grounded. Electrical interferance than would normally interfere with the signal voltage is absorbed by the shield wire and sent to ground.

The short length of wire on the now O2 sensor is probably shielded, but the wire in the stock loom definitely is.

so is the stck one sheilded? the univer. one doesn't look like it is.

No, the stock one is not shielded, you are going to cut the wire and connector off the stock one and crimp it onto the Bosch replacement. The wires are the same. The wires in the engine harness that the connector plugs into are shielded.

The Bosch replacement is the same specs as stock is just comes with a unterminated lead so that you can use it in many applications. I personally do not think that a 12" piece of wire and a connector are worth an additional $60+ dollars.
