help. tranny filler plug super stuck
 

i was trying to change my manual transmission fluid today . I had drained all the fluid out , but now i cannot get the filler plug lose . i used a 14mm wrench and was hitting it with a hammer to try to brake it loose . but this thing is stuck on there tight. Any suggestions , is there any other way to put transmission fluid other than the filler like maybe in the shifter ??? please help.

Thats why you always take out the filler plug first. I would try and heat the area around the fillr plug with a small propane torch and try to break it loose. And I'm sure you checked the obvious and your turning it the left way.

Bummer. :( I know it's too late now, but you ALWAYS remove the filler plug before the drain plug, for this reason. And no you can't fill it through the shifter.

You simply need to put more torque on it. Use a longer bar.

fuck . i never had this problem changing tranny fluid on a car . i have a 300zx turbo and it never game me this problem when i changed her tranny fluid but i guess this is just a learning experience .

Have you tried PB blaster or something similar? Try and lubricate / free up deposits with a chemical before you apply loads of torque.

My tranny had 131,000 miles on it when I took out the plug. I sprayed it the night before and the day of with PB Blaster. It came off with relative ease with a 9/16" combination wrench.

If you have an impact gun and a swivel socket, that would work.

i had the same problem, so i filled her up where the 5th/reverse sensors at......then then later that week i put it on a lift so i could get more leverage to take off that damn bolt instead of laying on the ground....good luck man.

i suggest using an impact gun only and i mean only if you have something that can rethread the hole...one of my lug nuts seized and i couldnt get it off so i tried to gun it off with my gun but it was on so tight the gun didnt have enough torque..so i went to my brothers shop and they used a high powered gun and even that had trouble.

basicly what happened was the gun got the nut off but it took some of the threading with it...so beware of gunning

no i dont have a blow torch soo . im goin to either borrow one or buy one and if i really cant take it out im going to just bring it to the shop . i want that redline in that tranny soo bad .

NO!! DO NOT UE AN IMPACT GUN!! It's aluminum, the impact gun will completely strip the bolt. If I remember correctly, the 14mm open end wrench fits and the 16mm box end fits. Take a 16mm box end wrench and tap it with a rubber hammer until it breaks loose. I deal with these troublesome plugs almost everyday. They do wear out when you change the fluid once every 3 weeks, but I doubt you're doing that. The only time you'll need a pneumatic tool on the fluid fill/drain plugs is after you striped it out and now you're using an air chizle to get it loose.

The plug is steel. An inpact gun won't hurt it. But of course, there is no place for an impact gun to fit...

I've dealt with a number of very corroded fill plugs. What never fails is to apply a little PB Blaster, tap it with a hammer, heat it slightly with a torch (not much, just enough to boil the PB Blaster) and then use a BIG HONKING set of Vice Grips. Clamp the Vice Grips on as hard as possible and then PULL. Or hit them with a hammer. The heat drives the PB Blaster into the threads and the shock from the hammer breaks them loose.

This is a tapered plug, so it fits tight. When you put it back, there's no need to crank down on it. Just use a little Teflon tape and snug it up to 10 Ft LBS or so.
