help--Sat for 9 years.. now i got her to idle but...

1987 turbo II
64,000 miles
car sat for 9 years, but no rust..

I put in new gas and she idles. when i drive her it has no power, dosent blow smoke or anything, but i can slowly bring her to the redline. boost kicks in a little at 3500rpm

i pulled the plugs, they are pretty white, like she is running lean. i pinched the return line and the car ran better. i think i got i fuel issue. i got 12v at the pump

any ideas? i really hope its not poor compression. it starts right up and dosent blow smoke. i thought that is a tell tale sign of compression/blowby but ive never worked on rotorys.

I would pull those fuel injectors and have them serviced

change fuel filter and fuel sock, the fuel sock could be contaminated. Any reason why the car sat for 9 years?

This is how I would handle a car that sat for long time...and it ran before and started now.

I would drop the tank and clean it out ...when gas gets old it gels and turns into varnish.

Change the oil use 40 or 50 weight and substitute one quart with MARVEL MYSTERY OIL.

When you fill your gas tank dump one quart of MARVEL MYSTERY OIL and one can of Sea Foam......

I premix so I would also add a half a quart of 2 cycle oil.

Because your car is a turbo, I would take it easy try to stay out of boost for the whole tank full.

thanks guys. My biggest issue was hoping that it isnt a motor...

It sat in a garage with a cover on it for 9 years. The owner got sick and never drove it. Its only got 64,200 miles on it!

I drained the gas and put fresh gas in it. it did not have much gas in it when i had it towed home.

I ran a carfax and it passed a emission test at 64,000 miles in 2001! so milage has not been far off.

oh and i turned the variable resistor to full rich and it idles fine. just boggs down when you try to drive it...

OMFG! I am ordering that from mazda tomorrow!!!!

J5sense 06-23-11 02:53 AM

ok so i pulled the fuel sock...it was good. as was the fuel pressure at the rail.

I did a compression test I found here @

http://www.rotaryresurrection.com/2n...ion_check.html

looks like i have no compression on the rear rotor. i am pulling the motor friday hope to have it apart on sunday. lets pray for min rotor/housing damage....

Don't discount it yet.. Try putting some ATF in the rear trailing spark plug hole, rotate it 1/3 turn, put some more in, rotate 1/3 turn, etc. Let it soak in over night and try the test again. You may have a stuck apex seal or 2, especially with it sitting for that long.

SirCygnus 06-23-11 04:01 PM

i wouldnt use atf.

i would use the water trick.

maybe the seals are stuck? that seams like the cheaper alternative. just use the water truck or keep driving it and they will get un stuck.

marvel and atf. works WONDERS
