Help removing reverse switch connectors
https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...5f12c99ea2.png hello, trying to remove the 2 bullet type connectors on my jdm s5 tranny. I cant tell if the “tabs” on the flat sides need to be pushed (cause that didnt seem to work) or if you just pull on it. Theres not enough clearance under my car to get a good look and i dont wanna just rip em off and have to rewire stuff.. D and E in reference pic. thanks, carrington |
They just pulled off on my S4, even if you break it its an easy fix.

Sometimes it can be a bitch to disconnect those wires. I usually just grasp the male plug with a pair of needle nose pliers and twist the other end off by hand.

Those bullet connectors are typically fused together tight by 25+ years of corrosion & accumulated crud. Before attempting to get them apart, get them as clean as possible with a shot of electrical connector/contact cleaner (brake cleaner works too). Follow that with a shot of PB blaster or WD40 to the metal contacts (squirt inside along the wire) to break loose any metal-to-metal bonds between the terminals. Then get a good grip on each side and pull apart. Odds are the wire might yank out of one side of the plastic connector or the other and you'll have to replace the connector pair & restore the wires anyway. Recommend an environmentally sealed connector (e.g., Deutsch DT, Metripack, etc.) to make life easier next time.
