Help! Problem!

I am new here. i just signed up today. I have an '88 rx-7 SE and everyonce in a while the engine will flood. I don't know what is causing this. does anyone know or have an idea?
I will give the history....the first time the engine flooded i had started the car, then moved it out of the way for my brother so he could get out of our driveway. so i moved it then i turned it off. then later on in the day i go to drive and it does't start. i try and try. cranking it and it doesn't start. i have it taken to mazda and they replace the spark plugs and (i think) the wires. they told me that i have to let the engine run and get hot before i turn off the motor. So i get the car back and i am carefull and always let it warm up for like 5-10 mintues before driving and i wait 2-5 mintues before turning the motor off (which is a pain.)
a couple months ago i drove my car and i let it idle for a while when i parked it so it wouldn't flood. but then later that night i go to drive it. the same problem it won't start jsut keeps cranking. so the next morning i try startig it again, it doesn't start, so i try again and then after a few times of doing this (cranking it 25 seconds a time) i finally get it started.
i drive it for about another month and then today i drove home from work, and i let the car idle for about 3 mintues and then i turn it off. then an hour later i go to start the car and it won't start. i have been putting fuel injector cleaner in the tank wheni fill up thinking that they are clogged or something but that hasn't worked.

CAN ANYONE HELP ME OUT! LET ME KNOW PLEASE THAT WOULD BE GREAT. THANKS.

Well you had the right idea with the injectors. It is quite possible that they leak rather than they are clogged. You can install a switch that opens the fuel pump circuit and use that to shut off your car, or you could do it right and get your injectors rebuilt or get new ones. The 86-88 RX-7s seemed to have more problems with flooding than the 89-91s, and I've never had mine flood.

Don't ever take your car to the Mazda dealer for any kind of engine work!

You probably needed new plugs and wires, but that might be their standard procedure every time a flooded seven comes in. A waste of money that it.

Good luck, and welcome to our world. I don't know about everyone else, but I'm pretty consumed by my RX-7.

Check the archives under 'flooding' for a 'flood' of solutions! Basically something is fooling the CPU into cold start mode and that floods the engine - the quick fix is to pull the furthest away fuse from the underhood fuse compartment {from the driver's side}, crank for 15-20 seconds with the pedal to the floor and then stick the fuse back in and try a normal start - might have to do this several times if really badly flooded.
Alternative - if you have a hill handy or some big guys get it rolling and pop the clutch in 2nd - this has never failed me yet.
Good Luck,
Ian

Hey thanks for the info. I really appreciate it. I think that i will try getting my injectors rebuilt, or new ones. Do you know how much money it would cost to have that done? Yeah i know not to go to the dealer. i found out the hard way, when they charged me $188 to for new plugs and plugwires. What a total rip off! oh well.
I have another question my car has been running rich and has been getting pretty bad gas mileage. Does that have anything to do with the fuel injectors? Or is it something else? Please let me know what you think. thanks.

There is a part you can get from www.mazdatrix.com that fixes that problem. It is a bleeder valve that allows the fuel pressure in the lines to bleed back into the tank. I put it on my car and it fixed it. No more flooding:D It is about $50 bucks, but if you have the time to send your injectors away to get rebuilt, I would recommend that. It costs about the same. Goto www.rceng.com They will rebuild your injectors for about $25 each. The valve is a quick fix but doesnt eliminate the root of the problem. Here is the link to the valve: http://www.mazdatrix.com/c-bleed.htm

Hope this helps!
