Help please
 

i have power windows in a 90 convertible. a plastic piece broke and i need to find a replacement.
can i replace just this piece or will i have to replace the whole thing?

its the piece of plastic at the top of the rail where the wires from the motor rest

The regulator's broken. There aren't replacement parts like that, so you're going to have to find another regulator, or buy a new one.

I had the same thing happen to me. I tried everything to fix mine and AGreen is right, all you can do is buy another vert regulator.

is it impossible to just get this piece? cause i can take it apart and remove it. the motor and everything else still work fine.

if i could ever find a parts car i could get the piece off myself but i can never find one....why wouldn't they sell this piece?

or does anybody know what the piece is called?

the only thing that is broken is the plastic thing to the right in the first pic. then i took a close up picture of it in the second one

It doesn't look like you can remove that piece without unwinding the cables. And once you take apart the motor, it's next to impossible to wind the cables back up properly. I've done it, and it ended up binding up the cables to some extent. It was pretty far from perfect. The spring inside has a lot of tension, and the path the cables take is fairly complicated. Just buy a new regulator / motor combo off ebay. That's what I had to do with mine.

I assume that's for the drivers side. The dealer doesn't sell that part separately. You'd need to find someone that has a busted not-because-of-the-plastic-pivot drivers vert regulator and buy it off them

I've also rebuilt one like RotaryRocket88 did making one good one out of two bad ones, so it can be done. As to the cables, you just have to make sure they wind left to right/right to left side by side and not on top of one another at any point.

If your cables aren't damaged from dragging on the metal otherwise, I would guess you could rebuild yours with a plastic piece off a donor regulator. It can be installed without unwinding the cables. As indicated, the tension is via spring. So you can pull some slack into the process to get it on.

I've always thought a metal cable dragging (actually sawing) across a plastic pivot point under tension wasn't the smartest design.

Since I own three Verts, I keep a couple of these regulators on the shelf for any future personal repair need.

All that said, your best bet to get the window working timely is to get a good working used window regulator replacement.
