Help!!! Please!!!
i have gone through the searches, and i cant really find what im looking for and i am in quite a rush since it just happened. i let my buddy drive, (87 GXL, NA) and all of a sudden the car shot straight to redline and kept bouncing at redline, so he quickly shut off the car. after a few minutes i started the car again, and with no gas it jumped straight to redline again. any help would be greatly appreciated im in desperate need!
Thanks Zak |
First figure out if the throttle is sticking under the hood and if not you might have stuck injector.
|
not stuck under the hood checked that, cable isnt stuck either.

one question is, if the throttle is ok, how is air getting to the engine to make it rev so high?
Zak |
did you once the throttle cable and put it back in the full rest position and have someone make sure it doesn't move or anything when car starts... if not then try there and if it moves the throttle or something...

Did you check the tps?
tps adjustment If the throttle linkage isn't stuck then the tps might be telling the ECU lies. |
with the TPS im worried, i have to turn the car on to do that, and if i turn it on its going to go straight to redline, and keep hitting the rev limiter... im going to check the wiring tomorrow there could be a loose wire in the fuse box, i dont know my buddy from Florida who had an rx7 said to take a look because he had a similar problem. but i dont really know what the effects could be.

mine did this to me before i went home and took off my TMIC and spraayed all the moving throttle parts and played with the throttle cable and i started it up and it worked fine so check all your lines and grease them up it might work
|
i dont have a turbo, any other thoughts?
Zak |
should still make sure all wires are good and aint sticking and grease them up

Check the play in the throttle cable where it connects to the throttle body. If there is no slack, the cable may be too tight or binding somewhere along the route. Check pedal connection/linkage and all other points along the route of the cable housing.
If there is slack in the cable at that point, the problem lies elsewhere. You can test/adjust the TPS without the engine running. Check out the procedure in the factory service manual. (You can D/L a copy at one of the links in the FAQ.) |
MASS AIR FLOW METER
i had to drive my car down a very sandy road before and i had fun doing so as like 60MPH. but my air filter got slighly dislodged and sand got into my MAF (and then glazed the inside of my engine), when i tryed running the car it would jump str8 to 6k rpm and hold it nothing but that, i wound up taking the filter all the way off, and i noticed sand had gotten trapped between the door and the wall on the MAF and it was stuck most of the way open, check that, it sounds dead on, hope it helps! |
so i found out that the piece of the throttle that pushes the TPS was stuck. any thoughts as to what could be binding, i am guessing i am going to have to get a new throttle body. i put some lubricant down to hopefully stop some of the binding, and im going to have to drive from Storrs CT, to near Waterbury CT so we will see what happens. leave some comments i will be checking before i leave.

damn people.....
a stuck MAF wouldn't cause this, it would bog down not rev up, a stuck injector would do the same, TPS can affect RPMs to a point but not to 6K RPMs. check your throttle with an assistant working the gas pedal, check it again, after you've checked it check it again.... once you've done that then check it again. |
lol thanks karack. i did that figured it out!
