Help, need to get S5 TII running.

Sorry for the length, just tryin to be complete.

Okay, I have installed a S5 TII Jspec. I am having issues getting it to start. I have installed everything by the book, yes, the actual FSM.

The engine turns over and tries to start but doesn't. on a couple of tries it actually started and ran for a few seconds but that was rare. when it did start it sounded great but it was only for a couple of seconds.

All vac lines are exactly right. Compression(feeling puffs by hand) is strong good and even on both rotors. I have spark on all four plugs. timing is dead-on. resistance on all injectors is perfect. injectors were sonic cleaned and matched. TPS is set perfectly. AFM is good(use it on my other car every day) resistance on BAC valve is perfect. fuel pump is good.

I heard a rumor that the fuel lines on a jspec are different than that of the american TII's. this doesn't make a lot of sense to me as the fuel rails on the engine I got are the same as the aspec ones and I hooked the fuel and return lines up precisely as the FSM illustrates. can enyone confirm or deny this? also are there any other differences Relief, PRC and Switch solenoid valves?

I am thinking that this is a fuel issue.
I am getting 12v at each injector pin on the ECU with the ingition ON. should I be getting the same 12v at each injector connector?
I installed a fuel pressure gauge on the incoming fuel line, jumpered the yellow test connector and turned the ign. to ON. I get almost 75psi. the FSM states it should be no more than 39.8psi. Now, according to the FSM this tells me that I have a bum fuel pressure regulator. if the the fuel lines were mixed up (they ARE connected per the S5 TII FSM) would that pressure read differently?
Now, the fuel lines hold pressure great so there are no leaks anywhere. If I need a new pressure regulator could I just run an aftermarket one like th SX one or would you guys suggest just replacing the stock secondary fuel rail/FPR?

Any ideas? lemme know if I left anything out

Thanks

Verify it's shooting fuel into the engine?

What was the turnout with the injectors? Are they firing as they should be? If you have spark then its pretty safe to say you either have no gas or little compression. Have you tried checking the compression with a tester so you can get some numbers? Maybe its not quite as even as it feels like.

How did you go about setting the TPS without the car running/being hot? I was under the impression you needed to run the car hard to set the TPS correctly.

Maybe check the AFM for any leaks or disconnected harnesses. Those such things could cause you a headache or two.

Now on to the more important things, if I only knew where Ted got those avatar pictures. ;)

how do u know the timing and tps are dead on? i would try advancing/retarding the timing just a tiny bit. also, try starting it with your foot pressing the gas down all the way and keep the rpms up when it starts. try cranking the engine with the spark plugs removed and the egi fuse still in. u should see a cloud of fuel mist shoot out of the engine during compression. could the exhaust be clogged somewhere? maybe there is an issue with the turbo?

also, could your ecu be the wrong one?

could not set TPS with the engine hot as it will not stay running. I tried adjusting the timing and it just made it worse. I just set the TPS at 1kohm just to try and get it started.

should I be getting 12v at the injector plug itself with the ign. turned to ON?
I don't wanna fry my injectors, what voltage should I use on em to check if they are opening and closing when I have em outside of the car?

The ECU is the proper one, n370 and I have run this very ECU in another car. I pressed the gas to the floor and it made no difference.

yes the fuel rails are backwards on the j-spec.

make sure the lines go from fuel filter to PD to rails to FPR.

on the J-spec I think the PD and FPR on are oppisite rails so you'd have to swap the lines around.

Spraintz 03-09-04 12:49 AM

thats odd cause on this jspec the PD is on the primary rail and the FPR is on the secondary fuel rail and thats how I always thought the American ones were.
I'll give it a try I guess.

Man, I KNEW I installed everything the proper way:)

I reinstalled everything and it looks like there was a crimp in one of the fuel lines under the manifold. she now starts and runs although a bit rough, but at least now I can finally start tuning it.......and the fuel lines are still hooked up per the aspec FSM.

Thanks
