Help me with rim problems

I just purchased some TSW hockenhein R wheel for my 88 Rx7 convertible. I believe they are all 17x8 all around.... and i purchased some 235/45/17 tires but on the front end it rubs the springs/strut a lot.... the right side moreso then the left side... the right side was so bad that it wore out the tire almost to the beads....I need help I dont know what to do !!!HELP please

It's been said that 215 is as wide as you want to go on the front, but that doesn't help your situation any. How about wheel spacers?

You actually drove around with the tire rubbing the suspension?

Only alternative is wheel spacers. Should know the exact width and offset to be sure the size of space needed, or just try some washers behind the wheel to get the size of the spacer that is needed. Do not ride with the washers installed, this is just to check the width of the spacer.

I have 245 in my front and 265 in the rear and I definetly needed wheel spacers

So maybe do you think i should go with to 215 or 205 to be on the safe side .... i dont want to put the spacers cause the rims fit the car just fine beautifully

Just try the washers to see what size spacer you'll need. Once determined, you'll be able to see if a smaller tire will work.
245 45 17-25.5" dia 9.4 section width
215 45 17-24.6.........8.5
215 50 17-25.5.........8.6
205 50 17-25.1.........8.4
The above can vary depending on brand, but you'll see a difference of about .8" wich would be .4" on each side. Hopefully you won't need more than that.

I can't beleive you didn't notice the damn SMOKE coming from the wheel wells...

Zach McAfee 06-08-04 02:25 PM

Where can you find spacers, or do you fab your own?

It a start:

Just as long as the studs are long enough.

I'd hate to have to replace them just so a spacer will fit!

if the spacers for some reason don't work, just go with 215's
i've got 215's at all four wheels, no problems

they're 215/45zr/17's

best of luck
