Help ME I need Help Rebuilding
 

Well I am a 16 year old teen with a 2nd gen rx7. It overheats and now it doesnt even start. I need help rebuild my engine I need a good place to or someone who can help me in the sacromento area.I love this car but I seriously am low on funds.

This sounds like a bit of a disaster waiting to happen.

First, take a look at the Archives to find out what is involved in an engine rebuild. If you decide you want to take on the project, get the Rotary Aviation rebuild video. It's very helpful. Obviously, you will also need the factory service and Haynes manuals.

Second, you need to immediately deal with your dead engine. You need to dry it out, and coat the insides with fogging oil. If coolant has gotten inside, it will quickly render the engine parts useless.

Third, be prepared to spend some money. At least $1000 should be budgeted.

Also, a search on "rebuild" or "how to rebuild" would be very helpful.

Edit...You may want to consider posting in one of the regional forums if you are looking for local help with this project.

if you want you can drop the engine off to me and i can rebuild it for you or i can pick it up when i have the time. be prepared to spend upwards of $1k for an overhaul depending on the condition of your engine and internals though, this is a standard price no matter where you go.

dude, its expensive....

even if you have all the tools you need, its still gonna be spensive.

there are more than a few ways to build an engine wrong, ive done it, and so have many others before me, and even some recently on the board have built doomed motors.

if you decide to take on a rebuild, do get the video, atkins rotary sells a vid thats the one i have.

dont reuse any out of spec parts, that will shorten the life of your rebuild.

its waaaay too much work to build a shit motor.

do it right, and watch out for the thermal pellet in the front of the shaft, thats what fucked my rebuild -- i put it in backward.

edit: oh yeah, or you could just do what i did. because i spent all my money on the rebuild, i didnt have enough funds to tear it down and do it again.

i pulled a 100K motor out of a seven in the junkyard -- it runs strong, and everything works on it! for $277!!! tall block!!!

thats what i would recomend for you, definately. look for a seven with front end damage, that did not touch the engine. thats how you look for a motor in the junkyard.

i have looked around, there isn't any decent short/long blocks in the area but maybe i wasn't looking hard enough. :)

at pick your part there are a few sevens here.

but the accident deal is pretty rare occurance.

you live near sac?

there is 0 in rocklin and 1 at the rancho which has a locked up motor.

near LA, im in orange county.

the pickyourpart north of Autobacs on beach blvd in stanton.

i doubt he wants to drive 500 miles one way to gamble on finding an engine that 'may' still be in running condition.
