Help with locating these plugs.

Hi! Two things, thanks for any help. Car is a 90 S5 TII

Can anyone help me locate where this goes? It's a single blade connector that's under the elbow for the intercooler/ throttle body area.

The other (not pictured) is I'm looking for the female connector to the water temp gauge (next to the oil filter. I can't locate where it is on the engine harness or elsewhere.

Much appreciated

It's hard to tell, the only things in that area would be oil pressure sensor, brake fluid level sensor. Everything else around that area seems to be two pin.

Here's a pic of the other sensor. I'm looking for the connector that plugs into this water temperature sending unit. I've been trying to find this for hours now on the car and can't see it. Is it on the harness closer to the injectors, or closer to the oil pressure gauge connector?

Thanks

I couldn't find the bullet connector for my temp sensor either! Locate a white/yellow wire on the harnes, it's in the engine harness somewhere. Splice into that wire and run it to the temp sensor.

so i'm not sure my car and yours would match up... got an 87 TII. But for me and regarding the temp gauge sender wire its in the harness almost towards the end of it. So on mine the harness has a branch for the secondary injectors, then another branch for the primary injectors and right after the primaries branch there is a Y in the harness. Right where the Y is, the yellow\creamish temp sensor wire pops out of the harness and has a clear bullet type plug. At this Y look for a ground wire that has a round washer, think this ground normally goes to the top of the rear housing right under where the rats nest mounts. But if you see this ground, the yellow\cream wire is right beside of it as they both come out of the harness basically at the same spot.

i'm holding what I believe is the wire you are looking for. Note how close that ground wire is to it.

hey found a better picture... this is with the rats nest removed so this is what's under it.
You can see the wire and the clip where it connects to the iron atleast on my car. hope that helps

Ok. So here's some more info/ questions. I have a temp sensor that has a rod or bullet shaped pin to it. The only female connector that I can think of that's left is this blade shaped female. It comes out of the harness right next to the ground that was mentioned, it looks yellow underneath black wrap (btw I mounted this ground on the intercooler bracket will this work? See pic).

Could I have the wrong temp sensor, should it be a blade Male? Can I splice a female bullet shaped connector where this female blade connector is?

Notice the yellow wire above the oil filter.

This is where i mounted that ground.

Did you delete the rat's nest or are you running this under the rats nest like this?

rotary_fan 07-11-20 09:44 PM

Hey there...congrats on getting it running I saw your other thread!

As for the rats nest I'm uncertain about the final plan regarding removing it, along with rest of emission items. I've heard mention it can cause some issues at cold start? So still doing research about that.. it would be nice not to have to replace all of those hoses that are cracked or brittle from age and would simplify things.
Right now I have the engine apart and going to spec out everything.

I tried to find a connector like the one you showed and one thing came to mind but I can't quite tell from the photo. So on the firewall, passenger side, right below the condenser or AC hard line that mounts there.... there is a ground "tab" that looks a lot like that white connector. It goes from the ground "tab" on the firewall down to a bolt on the transmission. But i have my doubts cause in your picture it looks like your wire is more on the drivers side.

Did you get your oil sending wire hooked up?...just needing to figure out where the temp sender wire is right?

rotary_fan 07-11-20 10:15 PM

hey i might know whats going on....i'm no expert but found this.

So here is an S5 temp sender https://www.atkinsrotary.com/store/8...tegory_id=1096

Here is an S4 temp sender https://www.atkinsrotary.com/store/8...07-18-51X.html

If that is the right wire, the single blade one you sent the pic of. It looks like either an S4 iron was used or maybe the S4 sender was used..and your harness I believe is an S5 harness ( since I see you have the 100amp main fuse).

I'm hoping maybe someone that knows both S4's and S5 could chime in, it almost looks like maybe swapping in an S5 sender would work... or perhaps just changing the connector type. I'm totally speculating and have no real knowledge about this.
