Help with ignition choice for 500whp T2

I've got a T66 (Q Trim, .84AR) powered S4 (3mm Seals, etc) and I've got a Microtech LT8 I'm putting into my car along with a 3Bar MAP sensor.

I'm currently running a stock ignition and my car's ignition breaks up very badly at anything over 5k when running ~15psi.

I've been looking for a good ignition to use. So far I'm leaning towards the HKS twinpower. (I don't want an MSD 6A because I've heard bad things about it unless running a distributor setup)

Any suggestions? (Please back up with actual facts :))

is it possible your ignition is breaking up due to your connection to the CAS? how is the shielded wire ran for the CAS?

I have a Jacobs Rotary Master for my FC. I haven't installed it yet but it looks like a solid unit :)

15psi is about 400whp, so I think I am at the limit of the stock ignition. ;)

I'm running a 93 igniter, tII coils, and an msd 6a on the leading coil.

Ive seen this setup run > 500rwhp cars.

I've heard from several sources that the MSD 6A causes inconsistant timing. (Supposedly digital ignitions fix this)

So the T2 coils are good for over 500whp?

EDIT: They don't do anything about the trailing coils?

ive never heard anything bout 6a with inconsistant timing... im running a 90 block w/ a wolf3d and gt40 right now, i have no issues at any level of boost.

t2 coils are great. most people use these. I have msd blaster ss coils in my FD that im switching out for t2 coils.

trailing really doesnt need the extra spark since most of the work is done by the leading.

what wires are you running?

Hi_Im_Rob 10-15-04 01:39 PM

Magnecore

Ive put a ton of different RX-7s on dynos over the years, and I have seen some really crappy results from certain aftermarket wires. Magnecore is one we had high end break up issues with. (This was on an FD that had new magnecore wires.) We swapped in the FACTORY wires (not the NGKs) and not only did the breakup go away, but it smoothened out the run accross the board.
Im not saying thats your problem, but it might be a contributing factor. :)

Good Luck.

Hmmm.. Thats interesting, since I run Magnecore.

Are you having breakup issues?
