help identifying noise at high rpms
Hi, new owner of an s5 n/a and I'm trying to identify a noise it's making at high rpms and if I should be concerned..
Bone stock other than a 2.5" resonated midpipe that bolts up to the stock manifold and then to the stock y-pipe - still running stock mufflers. Here's what I'm noticing: When I rev it up to 7k WOT and shove in the clutch I hear the noise - best I can describe it is a 'clank' of some sort. I thought it sounded like metal on metal but I'm not sure. If I slowly rev it up to 7k and gently let off the throttle - no noise If I rev it up to 6k WOT and shove in the clutch - no noise If I rev it up to 7k WOT and let off the gas without engaging the clutch, I hear it.. Could it just be backfiring? Doesn't really sound like a 'pop'. Could it be tranny related? Thx |

Yep.
You could just NOT rev it up that high you know ;) I hear ya though, I don't do it all the time but when I am pushing it, just want to make sure she's healthy. It is while driving, and I can get it to produce the noise like clockwork.. shouldn't backfiring be a little more unpredictable? |
