help! - hole in gas tank
 

yeah, so uh there's a hole ON TOP of my gas tank, ie through the floorboard into the gas tank

so of course i have some concerns and i'm hoping some of you can help me out :p

is there any concerns aside from the gas vapours escaping?

also, is there any way i can patch up the tank or do i need to buy a new one ?

Dude is not a go idea to patch the fuel tank.

yeah i thought so.. haha (shrug)

but i guess i'm moreso just concerned w/ the dangers that may arise in the time being

Your best bet would be to remove all the fuel from the tank, remove it, then patch the hole. While your doing that you should probally make sure you didnt get anything in the tank that may have got in there from when you made the hole.

so it's oaky to patch the hole ? hrmm any suggestions what i can use ?

also, is it safe to be driving the car?

I've presonally have seen plenty of people patch there tanks on various different cars. To tell you the truth though I do not know what they used as a patch.

Crappy Tire sells some Gas Tank Patch crap. If the hole is small, it should do just fine. Time to go shopping. :D

you could go get a tank from a junked car. The tank doesn't look too hard to remove/put in. That would be easier than patching it, and it would obviously be better.

The fuel tank patch stuff they sell at most auto supply stores works pretty well, and considering the hole is on top of the tank it should work well for you. It is easy to use, cheap, and fast.

As someone previously mentioned, you can patch up the hole in the tank.

Just drain the fuel and make sure it is clean. The best way would be to take the whole fuel tank out of the car. While you are at it, you may want to inspect and scrub the inside of the tank (as there are probably deposits inside). From there, patch it up. (You can weld it back up if you want. I know some Datsun 510 guys who have done this). Replace fuel tank. Add fuel. Drive happy.

You may want to go the extra step of trying to clean the fuel pump (and the float). Also, may want to just change out the fuel filter while you are at it (to ensure that the fuel is extra clean).

Your best and SAFEST bet is to find a good used tank
