Help Finding Brake Caliper Pistons
 

I am having a very hard time finding pistons for my 91 vert brake rebuild.

Does anyone have a good source or cross-listed part number and vendor that will work? They are roughtly 33x31 and I've seen web references crosslisting htme with boht Nissan, subaru and motorcycle pistons.

I called Ray at Malloy and even he suggested giving up and just getting a reman. That's fine but the only ones I've been able to find through Olympus/Napa were in Salt lake and would take 10 days to get the car back on the road.

I'm in Alexandria, VA 22310 for anyone local with suggestions other than Ray@Malloy that would stock brake parts.

Not sure if it helps you time wise but there are a set of 4 piston calipers on eBay off a 91 vert. Mazdaracecar user name.

In the past, I've bought front caliper pistons from rockauto.com. This was awhile back so don't know if they're still available. I would suggest just buying rebuilt calipers. I just bought 2 front (rebuilt by Raysbestos) calipers (4 piston type) for my 90 GXL from amazon.com for just under $100 with no core charge.

(edit: cuz a lot of people change brake setups) Just to clarify, note whether you're talking front or rear calipers. If front, single or 4-piston. If rear, whether they go on vented or non-vented rotors.

But def. check out Rockauto.com. You can almost get whole calipers for a lil' more.

I checked RockAuto's website but the pistons are not available. Rockauto, partsgeek do list 4-piston remans.

At this point I'm just confused by the fact that nobody in the US seems to rebuild their own brake calipers anymore??? :)

I've rebuilt several sets of calipers but fortunately, never needed new pistons.

I've rebuilt bunches of them also and never needed to replace the piston. What's wrong with yours OP?

Done a few single-piston calipers, more recently the rears. By the time you're done cleaning off all the rust and dirt and spent money replacing parts and rebuilding them, I find it's not worth the trouble, especially considering the cost of some of them.

Since you're doing 4-piston ones, the price in terms of just pistons would add up fast, if most aren't in good shape. A good reman will also ensure all pistons move freely with the same force.
