Help! Failed emissions...

I failed emissions for HC's at 15mph (150ppm vs 121 max), squeeked by at 25mph (96ppm), but did ok with the CO and great with the NO.

Just wondering what the most likely culprit might be. I'm going to try and do the checks listed in the Haynes manual, but I'm not all that confident in my ability to determine if something's wrong... If there's something that I should be paying extra attention to that anyone can point out to me, that'd be great.

Also, one of the prior threads mentioned that I should get the car really hot before testing. I hadn't done that. Does it really make a difference, and if so, will it make enough????

Thanks,
Kevin

I just had the 60K service done before the test and I passed with flying colors. That's with a performance cat as well.

I think they did timing, new spark plugs, oil, fuel injector cleaning, etc...

yep, the catalytic converter needs to be upto full operating temp. rotarys tend to give of less NOx and CO then pistons. as said give it a good service
