HELP! Exhaust Bolts Won't come off
 

I am trying to unbolt the bolts on my exhaust so that I can bang all the crap out of my catalytic converter until my RB exhaust arrives. But I can't get the bolts off, they are stuck on solid.

Question #1, which way do I turn the little buggers? (the bolts connecting the "downpipe" and "Y pipe" to the catalytic converter).

Question #2 I think that they are rusted on there pretty bad, anything I could use to un-rust them?

My car will be back on the road within a week if you guys can give me the info I need. Turns out I made a FUBAR as to that my water pump needed replacing, NOPE just my air pump...stupid me I got mixed up as to which was which....STUPID PRAX!!! oh well...so now all I need to do is hollow out my cats and replace 2 oil lines and my transmission seals and I am back in action.

Have you tried a nut splitter? they are like $10-15, and will crack them off pretty well.

Spray the crap out of them from all directions with some WD-40 or equivalent (I mean drench them) and let 'em soak for about half an hour.
They should all rotate counter-clockwise.

use the right-hand rule to figure out which way the bolt spins ;)

CCW to loosen bolt.

you have MANY options. It depends if you want to reuse the nuts and bolts again.
since you do, you will have to break them loose.
what I did is, spray on WD-40 and postioned the wrench so I could use my leg strength to push away the wrench and loosen the bolts.

I put a wrench on and then put a long metal pipe over the wrench that acted as a breaker bar. That busted em loose pretty quick. Of course, spraying em with degreaser or WD40 will help too.

I used liquid wrench on mine, worked like a charm after sitting for a bit.

Some exhaust components came with welded studs and a nut - so even if you can get the nut off you may not be able to pry the pieces far enough apart to get them off without starting at either the back or the front and working up to the component you want to remove.

A good propane torch to heat the nut (make it surround around the nut helps).
As does a 4-foot breaker bar.
And an air compressor and a 350 ft-lb impact wrench.

But if you have none of these... Breaker bar and socket counterclockwise after plenty of WD-40 and antisieze when you put it back together.

if the car is drivebale go beat teh crap out of it for 20 mins then come back and try this again, they shoudl come out with a lot less force and yes use your foot to do that if u cant get it with your hand, becareful since the exhaust is much hotter... :)

I soak them in WD-40 for about a day, then use a 4 foot breaker bar. Works every time...
