Help- Changing Tps And Needs Some Quick Advice-
 

Like a dumbass, got TPS for 1990 FC3C vert, n/a, and after taking throttle body off, realized that the numbers dont match on TPS. 8931 and 8962, took the "new TPS off same year, just not vert, are they interchangeable? And also, when I removed throttle body, there is some oil coming from dynamic chamber. just a bit, is this normal, still new and stupid. Thanks, car in pieces in the street. :eek:

but if this is a 90 and you have a TPS from another non turbo 90 model, then the TPS's are interchangeable.

Some oil in the dynamic chamber is normal, as the PCV vents into the throttle body.

Thanks Ice, I put the free TPS in and its worse than the first one. Oh well, got to clean throttle plates a bit more. Have to go to classifieds and find me one that works, thanks again.

Have you actually testing the resistances of both of the TPS's to confirm that they are bad?

Get a multimeter and test the resistances accross the tps connectors to see if they are in spec or not according to the factory service manual. A friend of mine busted his TPS and we went through I think 3 other used ones before we found one that was still good.

Yeah I did, got a reading, while it was warmed up, of just over 6 on original and in the twilight zone on the "free" one. Hey, at least I'm getting to gradually remove and replace parts and learn about my Daphne. These cars are just fascinating. Wish I would have started at 16 instead of 40, but hooked now.

TPS from 89-92 are interchangeable. I just went through the same problem and there is nothing to tell you how to position the TPS in order to check it. You need to check the TPS through it's travel. The best way to do this if you don't have a multimeter is to make the test light discribed in the manual and you might check this link, http://www.racingrotary.com/linkdown.htm. Also remember that when you check the TPS the plungers are at full throtle when extended and at idle when pushed in. Check you resistance along that scale and not when the plungers are extended-if you don't you'll get erroneous readings on the A-B points and it looks like the TPS is bad. Adjust the plunger with the adjusment screw until you get the light. The manual says that the ECU automatically adjusts the TPS but it won't without the TPS being mounted correctly
