Help!!!!!!!!!Car wont stay on!!!!!!!!!!
 

Alright here's the problem. I just finish putting in my motor and gearbox In my 1987 turbo II Rx7. Everything is 1987 turbo II, And I know the motor is a good motor because It came out of my Best Friends car. Just to get that out of the way. I'm getting spark, plugs and wires are new. Car Cranks but does not turn over unless i spray a little starter fluid in the upper intake manifold. Then even after it starts it shuts off within 3-5 seconds. Now understand that I am extremely new to this rotary business, da only way I got my motor and gearbox in the car is because i can read. LOL. But seriously my car has a walbro 255 lph fuel pump, hks fcd, hks supermega flow intake, brand new clutch i just put in the car alone with the motor and gearbox, 2 1/2 inch exhaust piping from turbo to stock barrells. My car has no ac, no power steering, no air pump, no abs, no heat. Oh and if it helps, I know that my fuel pump is working. If you could help me out with my car I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

yea its hooked up. Alos i'm getting fuel to the motor because i pulled off the feed line from off the motor and made my friend crank the car and there is fuel coming out from the line so I know that it's passing the filter.

Fuel in/out lines from engine reversed?

not understanding.... i beleive that they are in the right places. the line from the fuel filter goes on the top line opening right??? and the return would be the line under it. right??

if im correct if the motor is from japan there opposite correct me if im wrong and also check to see if your injectors are opening...

look at the plugs, are they wet with gas. If your cranking and cranking and there is no gas on the plugs, you are not getting gas.

If you are not getting gas check you fuses in you engine bay labeled EGI
If you are getting gas, it might be flooded. This happened to me, some one told me to go to this site. http://www.rx7.com/tech/unflood-fc.html. It worked for me.

If he were flooded, then the starter fluid would not have got the car running at all. Its defenitly something else.

I believe the line that is sending fuel to the line, connects up with the pulsation damper and the return comes out from the FPR.

check the harness ground... ITs on the engine harness. ITs a ground with 2 wires and loop type connector... Make sure its grounded or the ecu wont get power... This is missed often and even by me which I've installed and removed the motors countless times.

Fuel injectors are not firing or the fuel lines are indeed backwards.
I would try and confirm that the primaries are firing and fuel is shooting out of them during cranking...

is your mass air flow syncer pluged in? or have a full connection ?
all so check your fuzes just in case, the ones around the motor and the ones under the dash , make shure your thrtal syncers a good one in your hayns manual it will show you how to take a olms meter and use it to tell if any of your syncers are good or not . hope this helps

All fuses are good. plugs are dry but can you help me figure out more about the harness ground?? where exactly is it??? where does it ground to? also about these lines being backward??? When I crank the car you do not smell gas at all. Also if the ecu is not grounded/or grounded properly would that cause the injectors not to work while cranking to start the car?????????????????????????????????????

giant vaccum leak like what I had?

make sure u tighten the bolts on the Upper intake manifold and BAC valve
that i think was what got me to spend a WHOLE day on getting my car up and running

I'm thinking ReTed and numerous others are right, that you reversed your fuel lines. If your plugs are dry, you're not getting fuel into the engine at all. There's two possiblities: Your fuel lines are reversed, or your injectors are not firing.

The fuel line thing is pretty easy, try to reverse thema nd see if it works.
The injectors go directly to the ECU, so its unlikely that there's a problem with them, unless they weren't plugged in. The only ones firing will be the primaries, so you can ignore the secondaries.

Just FYI, I didn't see if thie ground question was answered or not, so it's the ground that's about a foot long, it goes from the middle-top of the firewall, down to the engine, underneath one of the throttlebody support tabs. screw it in there. Good luck tomorrow :)

Exactly. There is another very important 'harness' ground wich is vital to proper injector operation. Its a small ring clamp attached to a wire attached to the injection harness. It is near the o2 sensor wire, and it connects to the block on I believe the intermediate or the rear rotor housing. The bolt wich also holds down this ground, also holds down the rats nest on the right side when you are looking towards the engine bay from the front of the car.

It Still Just Cranks And Will Only Start With The Starter Fluid But Still Dies After 2 Seconds Or Less. I have a 1987 turbo II j-spec motor. you think its the fuel lines??? because the feed line that comes from the fuel filter i put it to the higher fuel line. and the return to the bottom one. Let me know if that was smart or if I have to switch them around. Maybe the feed to the bottom and the return to the top. Let me know. THANKS
