help car dies after warm up

okay so i have a 1988 non turbo rx7. It had a leaking coolant hose i replaced the hose and i put coolant on the car. now here is the thing after i did this the car will start up and after 5 minutes or so of driving it shuts off. It idles well around 3k when it starts after a while it just keeps getting lower and lower RPMs. then it shuts off. This also happends when the temp. gauge is 1/4 towards hot...please help someone help im a noob when it comes to rx7's

Your post is not clear, on if the temp gauge is above 1/4 or at 3/4 when you are having problems.

Has the TPS and timing been checked?

Your bump has been deleted. Bumps are forbidden in the 2nd gen RX-7 technical section

sorry about the bump, but yea it happends when the temp gauge gets to 3/4. havent checked the tps but the timing seems to be fine

3/4 is way to high it should sit around 1/4

Yes... if the coolant is getting to 3/4 there is a major issue with the engine or cooling that needs to be fixed first.

On a 88 the temp gauge should be sitting between 1/4 and 1/2, and should never be as high as 3/4.

doesnt that mean that the coolant seals have gone bad?

Or the water pump, or the radiator, or the belts, or the thermostat, or the pressure cap.
