Help ASAP...TB Assembly and TPS Q's

I have my TMIC off and I'm trying to figure out why my TPS is out of adjustment everytime I check it. I've got my MM hooked up to the back of the plug for the TPS with the green and black wires, and set it at 1K OHMS with throttle at rest. I twist the assembly to simulate full throttle and let it snap back and the MM reads 500 OHMS. If I grab the throttle linkage and wiggle it back and forth, not twisting it to opening the throttle plates, the reading goes back and forth from 400-500 OHMS all the way up to 5K or 6K. What's going on?

Bad TPS.... ?

I know, thats obvious..

Other than that though I dont know

I have a friends TPS from his TII in there right now, and I have the same result. The more and more I think about it, it's got to be the TB linkage.

I'm not sure what I did, but now the TPS sets exactly at 1K OHMS like it should and at a little over 5K OHMS at full throttle. Release the linkage and the TPS returns to 1K OMHS. BUT now I have a hunting idle problem. It searches for an idle bouncing between 1400 and 1500 RPMS. I adjusted the idle screw a couple of turns in with hopes of bringing my 600 RPM idle up a tad. I tried using the BAC, but it didn't bring the idle up enough. Why do I have a searching idle now?

Is the bracket for the TPS loose? My idle just sucks. It sits at about 500 rpms. But that is when the BAC plug falls off, with the BAC it goes up to 750ish. When I got rid of my cold start it didn't do that crap as much. you may just have a problem with your cold start, but I think your TPS has something to do with it.

I am using FreedS4's TPS and it worked perfectly in his car yesterday.

Would the throttle cable free play have anything to do with it? I was told from another member that the throttle and cruise control cables need to have some slack in them. In my Haynes manual, it specifies that the throttle cable should have about 1/10th of an inch of free play, and I have about 1/2-3/4 of an inch. I will tighten those up in the morning..

did you check the bracket? :)

Make sure that nut that holds on the two metal thingeys (the things that push on the TPS) is tight. It's the nut that is on the shaft that I THINK goes horizontally clean through to the throttle cable side of the engine.

There's 2 separate pieces of metal on that shaft (I THINK) that you're separating or connecting when you turn the adjusting screw. If that's too tight I don't think it'll change, and if it's too loose, it might change on its own.

I've been wondering how tight this assembly has to be. I have tightened it and loosened it many times and now I've got the TPS reading to come back to 1K OHMS everytime after I twist the assembly to full throttle and release. So, I think I've got that assembly to the right tension, but the idle is messing up now. I didn't get a chance to loosen my throttle cable this morning, I was a little late for work and it's raining like hell today.

The TPS bracket????

Yeah, two 10mm bolts.

It was fun driving to work this morning with my car hunting for an idle at 1400-1500 RPM.

I think I'm just going to do the TB mod, and hope it doesn't get worse. I have another TB, just in case.
