Help: '89 RX-7 Misfiring, Poor Idle

my friend has a stock 89 rx7 glx. i dont really know how to explain but its putting. like misfiring or something. we just replaced the spark plug, didnt help. what else might it be???? also the idle bounces sometime, how can we fix that? might it be the vacuum lines

Yeah, that's a good chance that's what's causing your lousy idle.

The putting could just be afterburn, which is normal for rotaries.

Im probably wrong but I know that in a piston engine if you get the spark plug wires mixed up it would have similar effects of the putting you described

check your TPS too. My idle was crap until I adjusted it. and now it is crap again that I removed the Thermo wax and secondary butterlfies.

stupid question probably but whats TPS. and its been puttin before we changed the spark plugs. it started a little time after we gutted the catz. might that have anything to do with it( just backed up)???

putting is afterburn in some form. possibly from misfire, or possibly from too much gas.

if you gutted the cats isnt there less back presure? is there re adjustment needed. im gona do that soon.. when i can figure out how to do it with out taking everything apart

austinredlinecrew 12-17-04 04:17 PM

gutting the catz is easy. but you dont have to take everything apart. you take the catz, get a metal pole or something and a hammer, then just brake up all the shit in the cat. (dont breath in that shit, i heard its bad to breath in). when ur done through alot of black smoke well come out the first time starting it up. so watch out

TPS= Throttle Position Sensor. It's a black thing with a plunger that extends when you press the throttle. It's mounted right on the front of the Throttle Body.
