help with a 88 rx-7 tranny
 

i jsut looked at a 88 rx-7 with a maual tranny with a clutch thats 9 months old problem is that the clutch grabs all the way down to the floor and wont disengauge so it stalls when at a stop i think it might be lkow fluid but i want to know what the works that could happen before i buy the car

Sounds like something in the clutch hydraulics. Slave cylinder maybe?Hose? I dunno. But I'd start sniffin there.

just pop the hood and look at the clutch resivor bottle.... is it empty or full? if its empty you have a leak in the hydrolic system... i just had this a couple of months ago... sure you can not fix it and just carry a bottle of clutch fluid around... but then it will get so bad that will not work... i replaced everything in the hydrolic system for about 150 bucks from advance with a year warranty on it.. i also got the SS clutch line from online, if the resivoir bottle is full you might have a faulty slave or like you said the clutch might be bad

If the clutch internals are only 9 months old, it's gotta be the hydraulics. Funny thing is, most guys rebuild their hydraulics when doing a clutch change, and that should have lasted longer than 9 months...

Best case scenario- rebuild the clutch master and slaves yourself for about $25

Worst case- something is wrong in the dark depths of the tranny, and that'll be more than $25, lol...

Mine was the clutch master cylinder...Mine was failing internally,not to mention the graphite lube that my dumb ass brother put on the piston when he had the car...rebuilt it and worked fine for about a month...Then I had to get a new one

lol ya i would just buy a new one... rebuild kits are nice but then if its new it also looks nicer :-)

We rebuild or engines, trannys, brake calipers, wiper and headlight switches, etc, etc...

Why on earth are you guys allergic to rebuilding your clutch hydraulics? It's one of the easiest "do it youself" jobs you could do...As long as no rust or corrosion pitting is present in the bore, the only thing you need for an "overhaul" is new seals. If you want it to look good, repaint it...Just wasting your money if you're buying new master & slaves everytime your seals wear out. I've still got the original 17 year old master & slaves on my car, I rebuild them about once a year, give the bore surface a nice cleaning, whether they need it or not. Needless to say, I haven't had clutch problems on my car for a LONG time...

damn dude. u have time on ur hands...i wish i have the time to devote to my 7 like u do....

i didnt cause i didnt want to spend that much time nor paint the bad spots on it, sure it would have been cheaper but i would rather have a warranty... thats just me.. theres other things i would rebuild but not clutch hydrolics cause they are not that expensive... the reason mine cost so much was because i replaced everything so i could be worry free for a long time
