So, Somehow someway, the service port rubber stopper thing came off my car... dunno where the hell it is now, but that's not where I'm going with this. Today I drove to a buddy's house, and he lives a bit down a dirt road...Service port rubber stoppy thing had apparently fallen off sometime before this, as now my transmission sounds like a super charger. Probably the throw out bearing, right? I JUST replaced it less than 300 miles ago, and DO NOT have the money, nor any other means of replacing it right now, and the fc is my only car. is there any way to fix/clean without going crazy?

Oh, and before I forget this(cuz somehow I ALWAYS do, My fc is a s5 n/a)

Does it only make the "supercharger" noise when you disengage the clutch? The T/O bearing only spins during this time. If it's whining constantly, you've got other issues. Hows your fluid level? Did you use synthetic trans fluid?

If the T/O bearing is the source of the noise, there isn't much you can do aside from replace it. The bearings themselves aren't all that expensive...

Deffinatly take out the check plug on your tranny and check the tranny fluid. But bamato is right I had a constant whining from my tranny and my friends all said it was t/o bearing and I thought it was the tranny... I wish they would have been right.

Simple test: Warm up car fully and with the car in neutral at a stop hold clutch in and listen, release clutch and listen. Constant whine with the clutch in is a t/o bearing.
Clutch out (tranny spinning), if you hear a whine push the clutch in and the whining will wind down as the tranny stops spinning. If this happens check your tranny fluid, go out and try again.

The reason you want to do it at a stop is so you can hear what its doing, while driving the tranny stays spinning and will mislead you the believe its a t/o because it will not wind down.

I was too late, damage was done, but it didnt whine for the last 200miles of its life after I added fluid:facepalm:

I am in bed still, not feeling well, but I will reply to the oil question at least for now. I used Castrol Hypoy C gear oil. 85w-140. It does not say synthetic anywhere I can see on the bottle. I added two quarts as I was told the trans only holds 2.1 quarts.

Topped trans off. I was told by several individuals that it held 2.1 quarts of gear oil, so I figured adding 2 was ok. The trans took a whole extra quart today. Found the VERY mangled remains of the service hole rubber thingy, it still fits in there, seems all is well in that neck of the woods. However, the transmission is still whining like it was. I didn't drive it much, maybe I should drive it real easy like to held spread some of the gear oil? Or is my trans fuc/%ed?

85w140? IIRC correctly, you should use 80w90. You can even use straight 90 weight in your region.

I was told that, due to the higher mileage on the trans, the heavier the better.
