Heater Unit REmoval?
 

When taking out the heater unit do would I just take out the center part of the dash where the vents, cd player, and logicon are or would I have to pull the whole dash?

Why do you want to take out your HVAC system in winter in VA?

I wish I didn't but the heater core is busted so it has to be replaced.

My old 323's heater core gave out on me years back. I feel for you. Worst repair ever. Worse than 4 hours in freezing weather on ice to change a water pump. Worse than spending a day cutting off seized wheel bearings and threading in new lug studs. Make sure you have your o-rings properly aligned and in the correct number. I had an extra o-ring and it made it leak, so I had to do it all over again...

When I got the car it wasn't hooked up and I was worried it was leaking and that was the reason they bypassed it. Hooked heater hoses to it and sure enough, it leaked. I really don't want to do it but if not it will be hard to drive in the winter, and probably fog up everytime it rains. I was just really hoping I didn't have to pull the whole dash. I checked the haynes manual on it and it wasn't very clear. Made it sound like I could just remove the center parts of the dash and that was it.

You don't need to remove the dash to just replace the core!

There's a nice little panel that can be accessed from under the driver-side dash. Remove it and a small section of the ductwork, and the heater core will be right in front of you. Disconnect the two heater hoses, remove, replace, done.

+1 to rotory rocket88. i was about to say the same.. i had to do it in my 88 vert.. but after pullin everything apart... i found an easy way!! .. though a little uncomfortable lol. gl

Awesome. That is a good thing to hear. I really didn't want to have to pull the dash for just the core.

there is like 4 bolts on the damn cover and then you have to remove some hose clmps but to do that like everyone said you gotta remove the dash!!!!! just do what i did and knock it out with a hammer!!! but then again i live in cali and dont really need a heater lol good luck bro its a hassle

I really wish I didn't have to do it, but there have been a lot of times this winter when there hasn't been any snow on the roads that I could have drove the car other than it being about 10-12 degrees out.
