heater hose replacement

my heater hose sprung a leak at the clamp on the motor . is there a best way to change it ? would it be easier to remove the tmic? car is an 87 turbo ,stock . any advise would be appreciated. thanks

Remove the TMIC and cut the old one off with a razor blade. Lube up the ends of the new one with some water and work at it until it's on all the way. The firewall connection is easy, but the engine-side connection is really difficult. You have to force it on a millimeter at a time, so patience is required.

Do you need to jack up the car at all at any stage or this is all done from the top of the engine?

From the top.

Be careful with the connections at the firewall. They will bend super easy. So get those on FIRST.

also, you may wanna use wd40 to slide that hose on.

Then again, given that WD-40 isn't that good for rubber, you may not.

There are actually products designed for just this use but for the average home mechanic water and a bit of dish soap will work fine. You don't need the hose/fitting to be permanently slick, just long enough to get the hose on.

Back at the factory, we used a special solution that was supplied from a Toyota-specified manufacturer in Japan. Upon looking at the MSDS, the solution was comprised of 70% water, 30% ethyl glycol....It was diluted antifreeze... Makes perfect sense though.
