heater hose busted
i was on my way home and my heater hose split, the car got very hot, but i shut it off before it left the range, (about .5 cm below the top of the "norm" zone) i costed up on the on ramp down the street and into the gas station. were it sat parked for 36 hours to find a new hose... (no autozone the hose is not 6" long, thank you napa for the right hose...) the car started right up and drove the rest of the way home about 12 miles. running a little hot. just barely above the normal spot she sits on. but that is prob because i took the back roads home (lots of stop lights) and it was about 80F outside. but did this cause any permant damage. im going to compleaty flush the coolant again this week, to make sure i have the correct mix and to ensure i have no old coolant left.

id say your safe...
if it didnt heat up on the trip home id think you were safe... try any coolant test yet? |

What's the norm zone? Is that an S5 thing or something?

It's good practice replacing BOTH heater hoses coming off the firewall, especially the hose by the oil filter. This Is most proned to failure of the two.

As soon as i shut the car off it was all downhill. Whe did mazda put that hose in such a bad position. Jason NYC |
The question Is not so much the driverside hose location but rather the oil filter and It's pedal. ;)

yeah that driver side hose is what went out on mine. i guess i should have specified. damn that thing can be a pita, the top screw on the clamp was very hard to get to and i ate my hand up getting to it.
but later on in the summer im going to try and go back to replace all the hoses i can just to be safe. |
I'd prefer the oil filter In any direction other than upright. ;0
