heater core, to remove or not to????

i have about two months till i can drive my car and am taking crap off right and left, i started to think about wether it would be worth it to take off the heater core and the ac right behind the center consol??? my ac pump and PS were the first thing to go, so i have no use for that and i live in florida so the heater isn't a real concern ether, does anyone know if there is any segnifacant weight to be lost there or just not woth the touble?

not worth the trouble...besides you can always cool down but your cant heat up keep your heater yes its florida but you will have some days that your happy that you have your heater

I consider the heater core a safety item, such as when you are caught in a downpour and your windows fog up.

It occasionally gets cold in Florida. However, sometimes pulling the entire dashboard is NOT a valid option.

Keep it for the defrost/cold nights, and if the rad ever goes bad, you can crank the heat up to help it cool down enough to maybe get home.

Just cut a hole in the passenger side over the header piping and you got a heater again... once you start to move it even blows air...:D

this has definately come in handy for me,
great reason to keep it.

do you have to be moving for the heater to work, im not shure because the only test runs that iv been able to make were the illegal ones because my parents don't want to ride with me every time i change a little thing on my car, i thought mine didn't work because when i turn it on it makes a noize (like a hose opening with pressure behind it) and then doesn't blow any air or anything... also what about that crap behind the center consol, can i take that stuff out????

CrackHeadMel 11-15-02 05:09 PM

you dont have to be moving for the heater to work, just turn on the blower

that crap behind your center console is your heater core

Detriuch 11-15-02 08:30 PM

keep the heater core. unless its gonna be a drag car!

man heaters are over-rated
;)

then whats behind the glove compartment, my heater doesn't blow period! will fog X work if it does start raining or somthing and i don't have a heater???

Check your logicon for loose solder connections. This is a big area for non-functioning heater issues..ie no blower working or only blowing cold. It's a hassle to get out but worth the trouble, especially if you live up north and need that heater.:D
