Heater Controller/Logicon not working

2 Attachment(s)
HELP! This is the last important step in getting my EV conversion to work! I have been through a lot so far to try and figure this out. I've included some pictures.

Picture 1:

So the wires I have marked in red appear, as far as I can tell, to be getting the proper 12v. The wire marked in green is getting only about 0.6v when key is in position 1. Don't know if that is normal or not.

The wire marked in blue, I can't properly identify. Here is why.

Picture 2:

What the heck?!?! This harness doesn't make sense...the harness(es) marked "Connector between front and instrument panel" have 5 leads on each side...but the actual tail from the instrument panel only has 4?!?!?! Come on, really?! Are you telling me that the tail harness for the instrument panel is not ont he heater & air conditioner wiring diagram? So where is it? And more importantly, where ARE those connectors that are listed on the diagram? It doesn't make sense.

what is your issue? nothing on the logicon works? some things work? fan wont blow? i feel like you are making this WAY more complicated than it needs to be

Frankencar1 03-19-12 12:24 PM

Nothing lights up on the logicon and the fan won't blow. I'm making this complicated because it is complictated! The wiring diagrams don't even make sense!

have you tried another logicon?

You're not looking at the same connector. The "Body electrical system" section of the FSM has information about the logicon around page 100. It's is difficult to decipher without the logicon tester, but you may be able to figure something out. Good luck.

Yes I have. Same result.

does everything else in the car work? like gauges? could be your "meter" fuse is blown

Frankencar1 03-19-12 05:23 PM

Not a fuse. I have checked and replaced every fuse. Everything works that I can test, including sun roof (moon roof?) headlights, brake lights...the whole nine. Just not the dang logicon.

lol gotta love the logicons! my only other idea is to take it apart and resolder

Pay attention to the info provided by HAILERS.

I will look at that now, see if I can't run the same test. In the meantime, can anybody explain how the connector that tails off the back of the logicon somehow didn't make it into the Heatar/AC wiring diagram? That just doesn't make any sense to me.

And if it isn't there, where is it in the diagrams?

Please refer to my original post, because this is the exact place in the manual where I am looking. No, I do not have a logicon tester, so I am attempting to test power flow to individual leads.

Look carefully at the second picture and you will understand my confusion. The tail that sticks out of the logicon is either misrepresented, or not represented at all in the diagrams. That is why this has become so frustrating and confusing.

Thank you for this thread, it was a huge help. I DID get it all to work! I'm very excited. Finally I can start putting it all back in place. Turns out that I blew the "METER" fuse after I had painstakingly checked all of them, but it was the troubleshooting offered by HAILERS that led me to double check that. I'm not sure why it blew immediately and then later decided to work, but I'm glad it's all working.

Thanks all.

*EDIT: Thinking about it, there may have been a short in my original logicon that caused the fault, as it works with the new logicon and the fuse being replaced.

hmmmm....

Frankencar1 03-25-12 10:44 AM

Haha, yes yes. It must have blown again, because I replaced them all, then tried it and immediately got nothing. Like I said, probably a short in my original logicon.
