Headlight Switch Replacement
After about a year of driving my car only in the daytime, I finally decided to pull the headlight switch from my '91 convertible and replace it. I had a little trouble getting the bezel off over the turnsignal / cruise control stalks, but finally got it done.
I can see that one of the pins on the connector on the switch is scorched along with the corresponding socket on the wiring harness. I assume that this is the classic headlight switch burnout. I have two questions about replacement of the switch: 1. To get the switch out of the bezel, can I just pull the large rubber wheel off the switch so it can fit through the hole in the bezel? I dont want to break the bezel trying to get the switch out. 2. I can see that the wiring harness is connected in the upper left hand side of the foot box. It looks like there is a piece of plastic screwed to the sheet metal. It also looks like there might be more stuff connected to the plastic part holding the wiring harness in. Do I have to pull that plastic piece out? If I do, will a bunch of other stuff come with it? Thanks for any help you can give. TGF |
