Headlight Dimmer system-Searched

I searched the site a couple of ways and read dozens of threads, so here is my cry for help.

I have a 1990 convertible that will not switch to high-beam when the headlights are on. The flash to pass system works when the dimmer switch is pulled back and the headlights are off and retracted..

The dimmer relay is verified as working.

The dimmer switch on the steering column is verified as working correctly.

I can jumper the both highbeams and the low beams at the plug when the dimmer relay is removed; The bulbs are good.

The system seems a little different than shown in the 1989 FSM, so I do not know where to go next.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Thank you for

the 91 FSM images. That is just like my setup is layed out.

I have verified that everything shown on page Z78 is working as shown, now it looks like the trouble is either in the cpu location or the headlight cluster switch.

If you could post a detail of both those items, I will be very greatful.

Thanks again

Jack

Read a tutoral on resoldering cpu. In 90 vert CPU has a secondary board which has relays controlling latching circuitry to switch and hold the dimmer relay.

I resoldered the contacts on the secondary board and on the connectors of the other two boards.

Same results.

Does anyone rebuild the cpu's? Or other suggestions?

Thanks

Before you give up on the CPU, try pulling off the relay covers & cleaning the contacts.

It that fails to fix it, contact "Icemark" for a rebuild.

Ok, I'll try that; any suggestions as to what to use on the contacts? Emery cloth? Sandpaper? also, should I use conductive grease on the contacts after I am finished cleaning them up?

Thanks

Permanant Fix for this problem

After purchasing 3 different working used FC66 CPU's over the last 4 years, I got fed up. The late Icemark told me that he didn't even rebuild FC66 because they were too unreliable even after he rebuilt them.

So, with a little inspiration from RotaryRocket88, I decided to end this feud once and for all.

Here is my new thread!
